ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; August 26, 2022.- The Universidad Panamericana campus Guadalajara held the panel discussion "El Bosque Y Tu Ciudad", which took place in the Santander Auditorium, with the objective of presenting to the students the "Bosque Interuniversitario", located in the Bosque de la Primavera in the state of Jalisco and formed by a group of universities from Guadalajara such as; Universidad PanamericanaITESO, Universidad Marista and UNIVA.

The event sought to raise awareness among the university community, to commit to caring for the environment, to learn about the forest and the important role it plays in the city, as well as to present an action plan to eradicate poverty and protect the planet.

During his inaugural speech, Dr. José Antonio Esquivias Romero, rector of the Universidad Panamericana campus Guadalajara, said:

"Let everything that is analyzed here serve to form that great ecological conscience that we must all have, from the micro to the macro, because that will make us have better conditions for the future, and you, young people, are the ones who will be in charge of promoting those conditions".

Themes of the event

  • Sustainable Development Goals, presented by María Elena González Báñales and Sandra Valdés Valdés Valdés.
  • The ABC's of the Spring Forest, by Maestro Pedro J. Alcocer Santos.
  • Ecosystem Services, i.e. goods or services provided by the forest, by Dr. Hugo de Alba Martínez
  • 10 keys to avoid running out of water, by Dr. Hugo Briseño Ramírez.
  • What is the Inter-University Forest, presenting the objectives of the university group and the Annual Work Plan, which seeks to consolidate projects inside and outside the institutions in order to link institutions to offer social services, by Dr. Oscar H. Castro Mercado and Mtro. Adolfo Ruiz Aceves.

Within the topics, different recommendations were made about the conservation of the forest; such as human intervention, restoration plan, soil analysis, among others. In this way we were able to send a message to all the students about the importance of Lake Chapala, the environment and its threats, and the care of our natural resources.

"The ultimate purpose is to generate a sustainable city, raising awareness in our students," said the representative of the Inter-University Forest at Panamericana, Dr. Hugo Briseño Ramírez, who also presented one of the themes of the event.
