Israel de Jesús Gallegos Parra, Director of Institutional Development of the university, presented the project to those present and began with a few words of context. He pointed out that the work on this gymnasium began approximately two years ago with some background information as justification:

  • Student permanence on campus: the objective is to create a "destination campus" dynamic where the community can find all essential services in the same place. To make the most of as much time as possible on our campus facilities for learning and training.
  • Continuity to a master plan that has been projected since the foundation of the campus. These are advances to reach that plan.
  • Strengthening habits of young people. The gymnasium is intended to enable the acquisition of good habits and the formation of character.
  • Listening to the university community: there was much insistence on the construction of a gymnasium. The proposal was analyzed and it was concluded that it was important.
  • The university wants to promote three aspects in the students: art, culture and sports. We saw the need for a space for the physical activation of students.
  • To take care of the foreign and international population, which represent 38% of the university population.

Israel comments: "More than 80% of adolescents in the world have an insufficient level of physical activity. This, in turn, brings a much greater problem in cognitive issues. In children and adolescents, physical activity develops mental health, concentration, discipline, and what employers ask us a lot for: the development of soft skills, such as: teamwork, resilience, among others".

Jorge Alberto, said: "We are very proud to lay the first stone of this great work, the largest, in terms of surface area, of the campus, in the shortest amount of time. [The plaque commemorating the first stone is a tangible reminder of what can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal. May it be a lasting reminder of our commitment to progress and excellence at the university to continue to positively impact the state and the region."

Antonio de los Reyes commented: "each step in the project has brought us closer to this common objective, which translates into promoting university sports and encouraging a healthier lifestyle. [...] It will benefit more than two thousand people who are part of this community. It will be in this place where our students, professors and collaborators will find the necessary tools and support to reach their maximum potential. By helping to strengthen better habits in their ordinary development, in addition to being a center to promote the community: where our university students will unite around a shared passion for sports and self-improvement".
