The social project "Calcutta is everywhere" is an initiative created by the Department of University Life, which year after year seeks to carry out a campaign focused on helping people living in vulnerable situations.

Calcutta: Laughter of Hope

With the mission of generating a smile and giving a special day for each child, the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, through the Department of University Life, carried out the fourth edition of "Calcutta is everywhere", this time with the theme "Laughter of Hope", which was focused on children living in foster homes.

How was the 4th Edition of Calcutta: Laughter of Hope?

The event was full of laughter, games and fun, where a total of 78 children attended, belonging to three guest homes: Casa mi Alegria, Sueños y Esperanzas and Tejiendo Redes. Each one of them is in charge of providing them with moments of happiness every day, which on this occasion they shared with the Panamericana.

"It is an experience that brings me a lot in my life, I do it with great pleasure and I know it involves a lot of effort and dedication to belong to this project, but when I see the children's faces and know that you made them a happy day, there is nothing better than helping others and seeing that expression of gratification in them," said volunteer Vanessa Paulina Alonso, a student of Audiovisual Communication.

As part of the tradition, the students of the School of Institutional Management prepared children's dishes specially designed for the children's tastes. This was done by creating a "delivery box" with the culinary touch that distinguishes ESDAI.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that there was a total of 70 to 80 student volunteers who shared their valuable time with the children from the children's homes. Also, as part of the Campus health protocol, each of the volunteers had to take antigen tests a few days before the event in order to be able to participate in the event.

"It was an incredible experience, seeing all the children very happy captivated me, some children even told me that it had been the best day of their lives [...] I had the opportunity to make a child happy and that made me happy too," shared volunteer Javier Torres, a Finance student.

Fun and interactive activities

Some of the activities that distinguished the 4th edition of Calcutta were creative booths with modeling, painting and mask making dynamics; a mini farm to interact with animals; music; prizes; and most importantly quality time with those involved in the event.

For Panamericana it is honorable and gratifying to know that both collaborators and students of the Campus have the initiative to create events with social impact such as Calcutta.

It also offers them the necessary tools to continue promoting this type of events that contribute to the common good and to the service of the community.
