Mexico City, November 13, 2025.— With a call to incorporate a women’s perspective and multidisciplinary collaboration, the book was presented at the Universidad Panamericana Multidisciplinarity of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education from a Women’s Perspectivewas presented at the National Institute of Higher Education (xml-ph-0000@deepl.internal). The book reflects on the transformative role of academia in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda.
The event, attended by the project coordinators— Dr. Claudia Ivett Romero Delgado, Dr. María del Carmen Camacho Gómez, and Dr. Isabel Joaquína Niembro García, all faculty members at our university—served as a forum for dialogue to highlight Panamericana’s commitment to an education that combines academic excellence and social responsibility.
A book that brings together women's voices
During her remarks,Dr. Fernanda Llergo Bay, President of the Universidad Panamericana , and IPADE, extended warm congratulations to the coordinators and authors, emphasizing that the book is the result of a collective effort that reflects “unity and intellectual humility.”
“Multidisciplinarity isn’t a simple matter. It involves each discipline stepping aside to make way for another. We have written, we have contributed something, but we fade into the background, and then it manifests itself in multidisciplinarity, ” said Dr. Llergo, who also contributed a chapter to the book.
He emphasized that, from the Christian perspective of the Universidad Panamericana, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are presented as “an inspiring project for Christian life”, linking them to the concept of “integral ecology” as discussed by Pope Francis.
Finally, she emphasized that the book’s richness lies not in the fact that it was written solely by women, but by “Christian women researchers who offer their perspective” to complement the perspective of the university community.
Theory and Practice for Transformation
Dr. Eduardo de la Vega Segura, dean of the School of Engineering, then delved deeper into the book’s content, explaining that the SDGs represent a global commitment to address the major challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change, poverty, and inequality.
He emphasized that the book is not limited to analysis but proposes concrete courses of action, organized into chapters that address topics ranging from quality education in the digital age and the role of artificial intelligence to film as a tool for promoting the SDGs and the integration of sustainability into fashion design.
“The book proposes a roadmap for institutional implementation that includes integrating the SDGs into academic programs, training faculty with a focus on sustainability, creating a university identity oriented toward the common good, and measuring impact from a gender perspective,”, explained Dr. De la Vega.
Blocking out the noise, focusing on what matters
For his part,Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, rector of the Mexico City campus, hailed the publication as a cause for “celebration” and an opportunity to “shut out all the external noise and focus on important issues.”
He expanded the discussion beyond an “ecological disaster” to an “anthropological disaster, ” resulting from the continuous harm done to human nature. In light of this, he praised the book for not only analyzing the issue but also exercising “practical reason” by offering well-founded solutions.
He also shared the analogy of the painter and the sculptor, noting that, just as personal maturity is more about “unlearning” and returning to the essentials (the sculpture), society needs that “ecological maturity” toshed harmful practices and return to a more dignified form.
Finally, Dr. García acknowledged other sustainability initiatives by the National Institute of Business Studies ( Universidad Panamericana ), such as a recent study on the performance of Mexico’s 100 largest companies in this area, and encouraged the coordinators to make this book “the first of many” projects along these lines.
A collective effort with the UP stamp
Published by McGraw-Hill Interamericana Editores in its first edition of 2020, it brings together the work of female scholars from disciplines as diverse as philosophy, education, communication, engineering, and artificial intelligence.
The work reflects the spirit of the Universidad Panamericana: a hopeful intellectualism that, far from limiting itself to criticism, is dedicated to the proactive search for solutions, recalling that, in Chesterton’s words, “pessimism is the cowardice of Christian intellectuals.”
With this presentation, the Panamericana reaffirms its commitment to being a transformative space where knowledge, innovation, and social values converge to chart new paths of hope, as Pope Francis noted.
