Mexico City, October 24, 2025. — The Universidad Panamericana became one of the first institutions in Latin America to integrate generative artificial intelligence across its academic model, using Google Cloud’s Gemini for Education solution, with technological support from Apisec.
With campuses in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Aguascalientes, and more than 17,000 students and 3,200 staff members, Universidad Panamericana its leadership in education by leveraging AI to optimize the teaching and learning experience, improve operational efficiency, and enhance research.

Generative AI: UP's New Academic Engine
The project began in November 2024 with an initial phase focused on assessment, training, and evaluation for administrators, researchers, and faculty. Over the following months, Gemini for Education was rolled out alongside Deep Research and NotebookLM licenses, enabling the integration of generative AI into academic, administrative, and research activities.
“Our main goal was to integrate generative AI capabilities across the board, along with RAG functionalities, optimized LLM models, and other technologies, to enhance academic, research, and administrative activities,” said Dr. Alejandro Ordoñez Torres, dean of the School of Engineering and director of the Phygital Lab for Digital Transformation at the Universidad Panamericana.
The partnership with Apisec enabled the secure and scalable implementation of AI within the Google Workspace technology ecosystem. The process included phases of governance, training, and ongoing review to ensure the ethical and responsible use of the technology.
Among the key findings, more than 780 teachers and 230 students are currently using Gemini for Education Premium to enhance their lessons and academic materials, while more than 200 staff members are using AI to automate administrative tasks and save between 2 and 3 hours a day on routine work.

2,000 licenses to transform learning
Currently, the Universidad Panamericana 2,000 active licenses for Gemini for Education Premium, distributed among faculty, students, and researchers.
“Thanks to generative AI, the Universidad Panamericana faculty and students with the same technological capabilities—something no other institution in Mexico is doing,” said Juan José Arroyo Pieck, CEO of Apisec.
Research and Creation with AI
The project involves the use of tools such as Deep Research and NotebookLM, which enable professors and researchers to better structure their projects, analyze information more thoroughly, and manage coursework more efficiently. Some students are even developing custom AI agents (Gems) to learn independently in fields such as philosophy, engineering, and the humanities.
Innovation with an educational purpose
Universidad Panamericana expand its use of Gemini for Education alongside other Google Cloud solutions, such as BigQuery, Compute Engine, and Vertex AI, as well as launch a series of webinars and training sessions in collaboration with Apisec to strengthen the digital skills of the entire university community.
“Our goal is to reach the entire educational community with this innovation. It also offers three major benefits: cyber resilience, operational optimization, and strategic innovation to generate value,” concluded Alejandro Ordoñez Torres.
With this initiative, the Universidad Panamericana its commitment to cutting-edge education, grounded in academic excellence, digital ethics, and technology that serves society.
