Zapopan, Jalisco; February 08, 2023.- Concepción Susana Jaramillo Coyotzi, Alumni of Communication and Audiovisual Creation of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, worked as Production Assistant on the film Pinocchio, by director Guillermo del Toro, nominated for the Oscar Awards 2023 in the category of "Best Animated Film".
Challenges of the movie Pinocchio
Susana's role as Production Assistant was "very extensive" because she was in charge of purchasing the materials that were needed, as well as making sure that the meetings were held, that the timelines were met, that the paperwork was in order, the invoices and the contracts.
Some of the challenges presented to the Communication and Audiovisual Creation Alumni were the following:
- I was a recent graduate, and I was next to people with years of experience, and we had just come out of the pandemic, so it generated social anxiety. At the beginning it was very difficult for me to arrive and say "hey, can you help me do this or hey, I need you to bring me this".
- Another challenge was that I didn't really know how to do things, because in the career they teach you theoretically, but in practice it's a completely different thing.
- The third challenge was to fight for me to stay, because at the beginning I came in as an intern, so I was only going to stay for three weeks and I had to find a way to make myself indispensable to stay until the end of the film.
Project learning
On the other hand, what he liked most about being part of the film was the "Crew", since he made very good friendships, which in turn, gave him the opportunity to learn. "Learning was the greatest thing I had because when I finished my tasks in the Production area, they let me go and give me a tour to other departments."
Regarding what it was like to work with Guillermo del Toro, Susana Jaramillo describes him as "a very kind person, he transmits a lot of quality and has that feeling of supporting young people and Mexicans. He always tries to talk to you on a one-on-one basis.
Looking back to when she had her entrance interview at Panamericana, Susana recalled that her plan was that when she graduated, she wanted more people to know Panamericana. One piece of advice Susana Jaramillo gives to the university community is not to give up. "Obviously the road is difficult, but if you make an effort and do what you want with love and passion, you will achieve it."
Pinocchio has won the following international awards: the Critics Choice Awards 2023 and the Golden Globes 2023 in the category of Best Animated Film. In addition, it is nominated for the Oscar Awards 2023 to be held on March 12, 2023, in the category of "Best Animated Film".
