UP Communication celebrates 5th Journalism Award

Mexico City, February 9, 2024. Universidad Panamericana celebrated the fifth edition of its 5th Journalism Award, an event that highlights excellence and innovation in university journalism.

With the participation of students, professors and renowned journalists, this award is consolidated as a benchmark in the training and recognition of future information professionals in our country.

Among the special guests at the event were Liliana Del Olmo, editor of the newspaper Reforma and representative of the external jury, as well as Ofmara Fernanda Rangel, winner of the 4th edition of the 4th edition of the Journalism Award and alumni of the Bachelor's Degree in Communication.

Revaluing journalistic work

The meeting began with remarks by Professor Teresa López, who emphasized the role of journalism in society, especially in times of disinformation and overinformation.

Dr. Íñigo Fernández then stressed the importance of revaluing the work of journalism. He also stated that "journalism is an exercise in criticism, an exercise in democracy, an exercise in dialogue at a social level that is indispensable; frankly, I cannot imagine a society without newspapers and journalists".

The students who participated in this contest had to go beyond the classroom and go out into the streets to confront reality and interview the protagonists of the events. Dr. López Aguirre emphasized that "this is not only a journalism of denunciation or description, but also a journalism that seeks solutions to the various problems that our society is going through".

The awards were given in different categories and highlighted the diversity and richness of the students' journalistic work. Each category recognized the effort, originality and dedication of the students in their respective areas. The categories and winners of this edition were:

Honorable mention 1: Aitana Luaces Díaz with the work El desequilibrio de géneros era mi mayor interés, abonar a un mundo más sensato: Aura García-Junco.

Honorable mention 2: Emilio Alejandro Morlett López with the work Jaime Maussan invites young people to investigate and take the side of truth.
