UP students stand out in the National Logic Olympiad 2025

Mexico City, June 6, 2025.-Universidad Panamericana reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence in logic and philosophy, by standing out in the most recent edition of the International Logic Olympiadorganized by the Mexican Academy of Logic (AML).. The event brought together students from all over the country and other parts of the world to test their skills in logical reasoning and critical thinking.

During this event, five students from the School of Philosophy of the Mexico City campus qualified for the national finals and obtained outstanding results with the support of Dr. Karen González Fernández. Dr. Karen González Fernándezwho advised the team.

The students are:

  • Santiago Carrillo Estrada.
  • Mauro Rogelio Galindo Ibarra.
  • Gabriel Netzahualcoyotl Lara Wilk.
  • Fátima Belén Zepeda Zavala.
  • Mateo Espinosa Castro.

Of these students Netzahualcóyotl Lara came in 3rd place nationally y Santiago Carrillo at 2nd place nationally in the Masterscategory, where he competed against champions from previous editions.

Discipline, academic training and commitment

The Olympiad attracts participants from various disciplines, from philosophers to programmers. For Dr. Karen González the competition not only encourages the rigorous study of logic, but also fosters critical skills for professional life..

"Many of the students who participate in it develop skills and values that ultimately help them both in their higher education and in their professional lives"he said.

The preparation provided by Dr. González to the five finalists from our university consisted of a process that combined formal logic courses, which are taught during the undergraduate degree in philosophy through the subjects of propositional logic and predicate logic, with weekly advising and independent study.

On specific strategies, he mentions: "In particular, the two students who won in this edition (Netzahualcóyotl Lara and Santiago Carrillo) have worked hard on perfecting their own skills".

"They studied with exams from previous years and supplemented their preparation by studying on their own, in a very professional manner, the topics they lacked a good understanding of or wanted to go deeper into,"he adds.

Proud results for Universidad Panamericana

According to Dr. González, the achievements obtained by the students reflect the high academic level of Universidad Panamericana, since the exam they had to take was very demanding and the young people they competed against were the best in the country.

"It is an important result because it shows that the education the students receive at Panamericana is of quality and motivates them to go beyond their limits and the limits of the disciplines themselves".he says.

Santiago Carrillo, the overall winner in 2024, faced a major challenge this year in Masters. About his evolution, Dr. Gonzalez highlighted: "(...) competing against previous year's winners demands an even higher level. You really need to study hard to get a good place in the final, and in many cases, even if you study hard, you don't get good results.".

Philosophy and logic: pillars for the future

Likewise, for the advisor, these successes consolidate the prestige of the Panamericana at the national level, since the Olympiad is organized by the Mexican Academy of Logic (Academia Mexicana de Logica). Mexican Academy of Logic to which the main researchers in logic in the country are affiliated.

"Obtaining good results in the olympiad is a sign that the education that the education offered at the Universidad Panamericana in this area of philosophy is of a high level and is competitive with what is taught in this discipline in any other university in the country. and is competitive with respect to what is taught in this discipline in any other university in the country," he says.he reasons.

Tools to enrich thinking

Dr. Gonzalez knows that logic and philosophy can seem abstract and this often turns young people away from choosing to study these disciplines, as they tend to believe they are too difficult. However, she points out that if they give them a chance, they can discover questions about scientific methodology and our understanding of the world in general.

So he advises other young people: "Approaching logic and philosophy will always enrich people's lives and therefore, I invite them to study them with enthusiasm."

This achievement reaffirms the prestige of the Universidad Panamericana's School of Philosophy, which seeks to train professionals with a solid foundation in critical thinking, capable of facing contemporary challenges from a humanistic and rational perspective..
