UP School of Philosophy and University of Notre Dame hold Workshop Aristotle's De Memoria and it's reception

Mexico City, April 4, 2025. From February 27 to March 1, eight students from the Master's program in Master's program in Ancient Philosophy of the Universidad Panamericana and four doctoral students from the University of Notre DameD. students from the University of Notre Dame, came together to conduct the Workshop Aristotle's De Memoria and it's reception.

The aforementioned, with the objective of to strengthen the ties between the Universidad Panamericana and the University of Notre Dameas well as to deepen the study of the medieval tradition of Aristotle's commentators.

Aristotle's De Memoria and it's reception

The workshop was co-organized by Dr. Luis Xavier López Farjeatfrom the School of Philosophy of the Universidad Panamericana, and Dr. Therese Scarpelli Cory. Dr. Therese Scarpelli Corydirector of the Jacques Maritain Center Center at the University of Notre Dame, with the support of the Mexico Faculty Grant Program Mexico Faculty Grant Program.

During three days, the participants analyzed the textual and philosophical issues presented by the treatise On Memory and Reminiscence by Aristotle, as well as its influence on Latin, Arabic and Greek traditions.as well as its influence within the Latin, Arabic and Greek traditions.

They were accompanied and guided in the discussion by the professors André Laks, Maria Elena Garcia Pelaez y José Alberto Ross from the School of Philosophy at the Universidad Panamericana, as well as by Sean Kelsey y Stephen Ogdenof the University of Notre Dame, and by Prof. Deni Gamboa Lopez of Deni Gamboa Lópezof BUAP.

Lectures on the philosophy of Aristotle

In addition, two lectures were given on the Aristotelian text. The Dr. David Lévystonefrom the School of Philosophy at Panamericana University, gave a lecture entitled Sensation, Memory & Time. A Husserlian Reading of Aristotle's De Memoria Ia novel approach to the experience of time from a phenomenological consideration and Aristotelian relevance to the problem.

Also, the Dr. Jörg Tellkamp Jörg Tellkamp from UAM presented Albert the Great on Memorywhere he presented the originality of Albert the Great's position compared to the positions of Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas.

The workshop thus promoted inter-university and international collaboration and also generated an enriching project both for the students and for the study of Aristotelian traditions.
