June 20, 2025.— The second edition of the Innovation Journey concluded with remarkable results, bringing together 96 students from various engineering disciplines across the three campuses of the Universidad Panamericana: Aguascalientes, Mexico City, and Guadalajara.
During this edition, participants developed 34 technology-based projects, which will be able to move on to the pre-incubation and incubation stages, thanks to the institution’s technical, human, and financial support.
A Key Program for Innovation and Intellectual Property
Innovation Journey has as its main objective to foster technology-based entrepreneurship, providing students with tools to develop creative skills in innovation, intellectual property, and commercialization. Key aspects of the program include:
- Technology ideation: creating solutions based on market needs.
- Validation: Minimum Viable Product (MVP) testing.
- Strategic Analysis: study of trends and the state of the art in technology.
- Intellectual Property: Protection and Commercialization of Inventions.
- Marketing: development of business models and pitch.
Notable Achievements
In this edition, the program awarded 11 awards and 7 supplementary grants worth 200,000.00 MXN in in-kind support each, aimed at promoting intellectual property protection, commercial prospecting, and technology licensing.
In addition, the event facilitated connections among students, researchers, and investors, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration on projects with high market potential.
The most notable projects at each campus were:
Aguascalientes Campus
- Degree Program: Innovation and Design Engineering.
- Focus: innovation in health, beauty, water conservation, and the fight against fast fashion.
- Support: experts in business models, marketing, and intellectual property.
- Winning projects: beauty products, products for people with autism, and a pill dispenser to prevent medication poisoning.
- Faculty: Dr. Gabriela Durán (principal instructor), Alejandro Zarza Martínez, M.S. (assistant instructor).
Mexico City Campus
- Degree Program: Mechatronics Engineering.
- Participants: 32 students in their 8th semester.
- Focus: mechatronic solutions with social and commercial impact, such as robotics and automation.
- Winning Projects: A soft robot inspired by the axolotl and an intelligent AI-powered fire suppression system.
- Full Professor:Dr. Hiram Ponce.
Guadalajara Campus
- Degree Program: Innovation and Design Engineering.
- Participants: 46 students in their 8th semester.
- Focus: Development of medical devices and healthcare solutions in the Wellness.
- Support: expert consulting in electronics, mechanical design, and biomedicine, with legal oversight regarding intellectual property provided by Liz Servín, M.A.
- Winning projects: solutions in gynecology, peritoneal dialysis, diabetes, and transportation sanitation.
- Faculty: Dr. Fabiola Cortés (course instructor), Aramis Herrera, M.A., and Ximena Resendiz, M.A. (co-instructors).
Toward a Culture of Innovation with Real Impact
The Office of the Vice President for Research, together with the Corporate Office of Innovation and Technology Transfer and the Entrepreneurship Centers at each Panamericana campus, will continue to promote these initiatives to strengthen the culture of entrepreneurship, intellectual property protection, and technology licensing at the Universidad Panamericana.
