UP and Coparmex hold Innovation and Business Forum

Mexico City, September 28, 2022.- The Confederación Patronal de la República Mexicana (Coparmex) and the Universidad PanamericanaThe Mexican Employers' Confederation (Coparmex) and the University of Mexico, campus Mexico, held the Innovation and Business Forum 2022 (IBF 2022), in the auditorium of our university.

In front of entrepreneurs, guests and the university community, Dr. Santiago Garcia, rector of campus Mexico, said that at Panamericana: "we work to promote the combination of innovation and entrepreneurship in our community".

He also said: "We seek to influence the preparation and updating of professionals through continuing education and postgraduate programs under the concept of Life Long Learning, that is, preparing for life, which is why Universidad Panamericana is an innovative company".

"In innovation, technology and data science and artificial intelligence are of utmost importance and must be understood in terms of what is in the interest of the individual. Innovation and technology must always be understood from an ethical dimension, which favors the common good (...)," he added.

Data-driven innovation

Within the framework of this event, Dr. Hiram Eredín Ponce Espinosa, coordinator of the PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Senior Researcher D, level I of the National System of Researchers, gave a lecture on the following topics Innovation based on data.

He explained: "The digital era is characterized by focusing on the value of information, where large amounts of data are generated from the use of Industry 4.0 technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and cloud computing," and indicated that although around 79 billion terabytes of information will be generated in 2021, "more relevant and quality data is needed.

He indicated that the transformation in the digital era points to the adoption of technologies at different levels of society. "Jobs have revolutionized digitization and data analysis. For example, in 2021, Mexico reached an adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence (specifically, machine learning) of almost 44%, positioning itself in the global average of use of disruptive technologies," he said.

"Data culture is prevalent in industries and businesses looking to innovate in the digital age. Streaming companies like Netflix, not only use data and have the infrastructure to analyze it; but their business culture is driven by the relevance and value of the information, thus guiding managerial decisions that in other industries are difficult to observe," he explained.

He concluded that "data-driven innovation has the potential to significantly improve productivity, resource efficiency, economic competition and people's quality of life. In particular, it is important to show companies that the adoption of data science will drive innovation and entrepreneurship.
