María Pliego: An Educational Vocation

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco. February 14, 2023.- The School of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Universidad Panamericana campus Guadalajara, organized the presentation of the book "María Pliego, una vocación educativa", written by Dr. Marcela Chavarría Olarte, an academic from the Mexico campus.

María Pliego

María Pliego (Mari Pliego, as she was familiarly known) was the woman who was part of the founding team of Universidad Panamericana and, in particular, of the School of Pedagogy, which, as we know, was the founding school. She also collaborated as a guest professor at the Guadalajara campus.

Throughout her lecture, Dr. Marcela Chavarría shared a series of detailed personal notes of María Pliego with her day to day life, events and experiences of the early years of Panamericana, as well as of the School of Pedagogy. These notes were fundamental for the elaboration of this book, among other sources and data collection.

In addition, María Pliego was totally involved with art (music, painting, etc.), which was one of her inspirations for her work in the educational field, and at the same time, having as a main axis, values in education.

Educational philosophy

Dr. Lozano, president of the governing board of our institution, referred to it as follows:

"The educational strength of the University, the development of an educational philosophy and the reference that it became in that area were due in an important measure to the work of Mari Pliego" (Excerpt from: Lozano Díez, José Antonio. "Nuestros fundadores y su legado en La filosofía educativa de la Universidad Panamericana", in Exigencia académica, Excelencia humana. Mexico City, Universidad Panamericana 2018).

The Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara congratulates Dr. Marcela Chavarría Olarte for her book "María Pliego, an educational vocation", who has dedicated herself to teaching, research and university management throughout her professional career at our university. This book contributes to the preservation of the historical memory of the Universidad Panamericana and of the values that are at the foundation of our institutional culture, which we share in all the campuses of Panamericana.
