Marriage and family: the greatest challenge of our times

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; October 4, 2022.- Within the framework of the Research Seminar of the Research Group, Family, Work and Society (GIFTS) of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, the conference "Marriage and Family: The greatest challenge of our times" was given by Professor Allan Carlson.

The greatest challenge of our times

Professor Carlson delved into the reality of the institution of marriage and family in our times in the face of the usual controversies related to gender ideology, feminism, the need to reconcile work and domestic family life, as well as the challenges posed by the institutional world, with special emphasis on the change in the original orientation of the UN.

This institution by its foundation of eminent Christian inspiration sustained the importance of the family as the basic cell of society and that is in its original statutes, as well as human rights, but progressively there was a change that over time has led to the confusion that is being experienced today.

The speaker also made a historical recapitulation of the role of the family in society, as well as the challenges facing the family today, based on nearly 4,000 scientific studies. He mentioned that, statistically speaking, people are more protected in a family environment, since the man feels happier when supported by the woman, the woman develops in all senses, they protect each other and the family flourishes in the context of two people who take care of each other and love each other.

Allan Carlson is the author of 11 family-related books; President of the Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society; Director of the Family in America Studies Center; and International Secretary of the World Congress of Families, among many other positions.

The objective of the Seminar is to deepen in the current challenges for the family in Mexico derived from structural and population changes. It arises from the interest of the University to generate advances in academic and scientific knowledge about the family from different areas of knowledge.

The idea is to generate a space for analysis in the light of different disciplines, proposing research topics and means of dissemination, while training specialists in the subject of the family.

This space has been organized in collaboration with Dr. Fernando de Jesús Pliego Carrasco, guest researcher at IIS-UNAM, who heads the seminar. Dr. Pliego has worked on research such as "The family perspective and the future of democratic societies" and the "International Observatory of Families and Family Policy".
