First UP Chess Tournament: Intellectual art for brilliant minds

Zapopan, Jalisco; July 21, 2023.- Last Saturday, May 13, 2023, the first UP Chess Tournament was held at the facilities of the Guadalajara Campus. Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara Campus, in which nearly fifty players from different universities in the state participated.

Organization

The tournament was organized by the Department of Art and Culture of this university, surpassing all expectations of the project, attracting a diversity of players who enjoyed a whole morning with the game of chess.

Chess stars present

The matches were held between teachers, university students and high school seniors. The participation of Paula Sofia Hernandez, who has a title before the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and is part of the Mexican Olympic Chess Team, stands out. Another important participant was José de Jesús García Espinoza, quadruple national chess champion.

Recognition of La Panamericana

During the event, the most outstanding participants were interviewed, as well as special guests of the event, who highlighted the hosts of the Universidad Panamericana, for receiving them in impeccable facilities, having a professional organization and, above all, for the spirit of service that distinguishes this house of studies. It should be noted that the staff was made up of students from various UP degrees, who in addition to their academic load are part of the Art and Culture team developing cultural projects.

Jesús García Espinoza takes first place

After witnessing the good sportsmanship, it was time to recognize the three best of the day: Jesús García Espinoza (1st place), Bryan Axel Cortés Godoy (2nd place) and Paula Sofía Hernández (3rd place), who commented that they are already looking forward to a second edition.

We are grateful for the participation of the university community of Jalisco and the great personalities that represent Mexico in this sport. Undoubtedly, Universidad Panamericana will continue to promote activities that develop creativity and strategic intelligence.
