Revolutionary Perspectives: 8th edition of TEDx UP

TEDx is a program of local events held at the SMART Center's student group, TEDx UP, inspired by the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) format and philosophy. Universidad Panamericana by SMART Center's student group, TEDx UP, inspired by the format and philosophy of the TED(Technology, Entertainment, Design) conferences. These gatherings are designed to share valuable ideas through short, impactful presentations covering a wide variety of topics.

Your life from another perspective

Luis Zubieta, general manager at Red Bull and alumnus of Industrial Engineeringgave a talk entitled Your life from a different perspective and the importance of strategyin which he shared his reflections on the importance of redefining life and career from a new perspective, emphasizing the need for a strategy at each stage.

He highlighted three fundamental passions in his life: personal development, branding, and giving back to society; and explained how the doubts we face at different stages of life change in complexity, but always require evolution to move forward.

A central part of his speech was the importance of understanding who we are and what we want to achieve, something he described as the "elevatorpitch," a way of defining our essence and purpose in 30 seconds.

He also addressed how the speed of modern life affects our ability to truly listen and connect with others, leading to widespread disconnection and impatience. In this context, he highlighted the power of brands to differentiate and connect with consumers.

Finally, he highlighted the relevance of people, as well as brands, reconnecting with their roots and balancing their thinking, emotions and mind to stand out in a saturated world. He stated that although the road is full of mistakes, the crucial thing is to learn from them and move forward with a clear strategy and an authentic connection with our identity and objectives.

Inclusion is a verb

In her turn, Minué Yoshida, Pedagogy alumni , gave a talk titled DSI Indicator, Inclusion is a verbIn her talk, she addressed the topic of inclusion in the workplace, emphasizing that it is not just a fad, but a necessity that has a positive impact on organizations.

He argued that diversity, which encompasses gender, age, culture and skills, is fundamental to business success and innovation. To this end, he cited studies that show that diverse organizations are more profitable and productive. However, he stressed that inclusion goes beyond just talking about diversity; it is a verb, an action that must be integrated into daily practices.

He also highlighted the importance of measuring and evaluating how inclusion is being implemented and its impact on the organization. He concluded that inclusion is a collective effort that, if done correctly, can become a powerful tool for social and business change.

Accidentally

Afterwards, Rodrigo Mata, a student at the Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla, trained as a paramedic, shared the following dialogue Being given by accidentin which he recounted a personal experience in which he and his family, while traveling, met with a serious road accident.

Upon learning of a family trapped in a cab that had collided with a truck, his mother motivated him and his brother (both paramedics) to help. Rodrigo described how several strangers came together to rescue a little girl, highlighting the solidarity and sacrifice of all involved.

From this experience, he reflected on how we tend to live with "dark lenses," focused on ourselves and our concerns. In contrast, he proposed adopting a "loving gaze," focused on others and how our actions impact others.

Rodrigo shared three tips to cultivate this altruistic outlook: practice gratitude, recognize what we can give and think about the impact of our actions on others. He concluded by inviting everyone to consciously choose this look of love and giving in their daily lives.

How to be emotionally responsible adults

Later on, Laia Barrio, Pedagogy alumni, shared the talk How to be emotionally responsible adultswhere she addressed the importance of emotional awareness and proper management of emotions to live a balanced life.

He began by recalling how, during childhood, emotions are expressed freely, but as we grow up, we learn to repress them or manage them inappropriately, influenced by our experiences and the education we have received.

Laia emphasized the need to develop an emotional vocabulary to understand and express our emotions accurately. Thus, she mentioned a study that identifies three hundred different emotions, classified into pleasant and unpleasant, and how most people only know a few of them.

He noted that the practice of mindfulness is a fundamental tool for managing emotions and described two ways to practice it: formally, through meditation, and informally, by incorporating moments of mindfulness into daily activities. He also highlighted the importance of conscious breathing to reduce anxiety and improve the connection with our emotions.

Finally, he offered four recommendations for integrating emotional responsibility into daily life:

  • Recognize emotions before acting.
  • Practice mindful walking as a form of moving meditation.
  • Educate our emotions and use them to our benefit.
  • To open ourselves to our emotions in order to live more fully and consciously.

The alumni concluded with an invitation to abandon the "automatic pilot" in which we live, connecting with our emotions in a responsible and conscious way to not only avoid hurting ourselves, but also to grow emotionally.
