Yunus Social Business Center: Driving Social Change

Mexico City, February 20, 2024. Universidad Panamericana has taken a significant step towards fostering social business and generating social impact thanks to the creation of the Yunus Social Business Center (YSBC-UP). This initiative of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center has brought experts from the Yunus Center of Bangladesh, Shazeeb M. Khairul and Shihab Quader, to share their experience during an enriching day.

The link between the Yunus Center and Universidad Panamericana was established through a series of collaborative activities. Initially, experiences, projects and priorities were exchanged with the common goal of generating a positive impact on society.

Social Business Workshop

The rapprochement between the Yunus Center and Universidad Panamericana took place through various activities. First, experiences, projects and priorities to positively impact society were shared.

Next, Shazeeb and Shihab delivered the Social Business Workshop (Social Business Workshop to the students of the School of Businesslaying the groundwork for the formation of a 3ZERO Club. In addition, various actors related to social entrepreneurship in Mexico were convened to exchange experiences and address challenges and achievements.

In the Social Business workshop, students explored key concepts on how to generate a positive impact on society through innovative value-based businesses. They learned about the inspiring story of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus and Shazeeb's real-life experience in social business, its challenges and the social impact generated.

3ZERO Club: training agents of change

The students were also invited to create a 3ZERO Club, an initiative that seeks to create a world with zero net carbon emissions, zero concentration of wealth to end poverty and zero unemployment by fostering entrepreneurship.

This club offers students the opportunity to become agents of change, share experiences with clubs in 54 countries and collaborate with Yunus Center experts on international campaigns and competitions.

Characteristics of entrepreneurship in Mexico

In a later session, Shazeeb and Shihab brought together various actors in social entrepreneurship in Mexico, highlighting the participation of institutions such as Impact Hub Mexico, Universidad Anahuac, Universidad Ibero, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Nacional Monte de Piedad and New Ventures Mexico.

They discussed the characteristics of entrepreneurship in Mexico, its challenges and advances, as well as the importance of addressing the lack of adequate legislation for social entrepreneurs.

The active participation of all stakeholders demonstrates the social commitment of Universidad Panamericana.
