Driving Innovation in the Agribusiness Sector

In order to promote innovation in one of the areas of development of the agricultural sector and agroindustries in different regions nationwide, the course "Data Analysis for Agroindustry" was given by Dr. Mayeli Peralta Contreras and Dr. Karina Jannet Vacio Muro, professor of the School of Food Business Management.

During the summer session of 2022, the students of the Master's in Agribusiness took several sessions for the analytical part of the master's program. They had the opportunity to develop strategic skills to obtain information, analyze it and debug it by using Minitab software to simplify decision making. The working sessions and software analysis workshops were held in the hybrid classrooms of the North Campus of the Universidad Panamericana.

Data Analysis Projects for the Agribusiness Sector

During the module, students worked on examples of red bell pepper, measurement of defects in bottling plants in Aguascalientes, avocado diseases in Jalisco, mastitis indicators, crop profitability analysis in Guanajuato, field technification in the Valley of Mexico, and Agriculture 4.0 in Latin America, among others.

Statistical tools and root-cause analysis facilitated the discussion of indicators and solution strategies for the different issues of the agrifood sector.

The development of data analysis skills will help us to promote innovation strategies favoring economic and sustainable growth, respecting water resources and social responsibility issues, in order to translate information from the field into strategies for government and industry and boost the agricultural sector at the national level.
