Law school lifts international trophy

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; October 11, 2022.- Among more than 40 teams from different universities around the world, students from the Law School of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara obtained, for the first time, the first place in the XV Edition of the International Arbitration Competition, co-organized by the Law School of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the University of Rosario, Bogota.

International Arbitration Competition

This competition has been held annually since 2008 and consists of an educational proposal with a competitive format, whose purpose is to promote the study of international commercial law and arbitration as a method of dispute resolution. Therefore, the simulation of a case is carried out, where students act as lawyers, both written and oral, in front of arbitration tribunals composed of prestigious international arbitrators, lawyers and academics, who evaluate the presentations.

In order to involve law students in commercial law and arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution method, as well as to develop their argumentative, oral and written skills, Universidad Panamericana encourages its students to participate in this competition.

On this occasion, the team was composed of: Bernardo Zatarain Palfy, Martha, Sofia Chaves Vallejo, Maria Jose Martinez Villalobos, Paloma Enrigue, Oliver, Fernando Buenrostro Figueroa and Julio Arcos Flores, who also received Honorable Mention and was awarded Best Speaker. Arcos thanked the Universidad Panamericana for supporting them since 2015, likewise he shared his experience as a participant for three years in this competition: "As a student we took advantage of it in different ways, it has determined my vocation in the area of law that I want to dedicate myself; to the area of commercial and international arbitration, besides finding several opportunities, first to find contacts with other students from other universities, with professors, with teachers even, with professionals dedicated to the subject of commercial arbitration."

The students were supported by María Elena Miranda, Santiago Aguilar Garibay and Gustavo Morante Aguirre. As part of their message to the student community, they invited the young people to take advantage of this opportunity to experience a real professional exercise, where they put their knowledge to the test and develop skills outside the classroom, affirming that this is what is really important for Panamericana; to fulfill the objective of educating students.
