Mexico City, October 17, 2023.- With the purpose of strengthening the units and offices of entrepreneurship of Ibero-American institutions of higher education, the Universidad PanamericanaIn order to strengthen the units and offices of entrepreneurship in higher education institutions in Ibero-America, the Foundation, in conjunction with MetaRed X Mexico, held the First International Meeting in favor of entrepreneurship and innovation, which brought together representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Portugal.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, Rector of Universidad Panamericana, campus Mexico; the President of MetaRed X Mexico, Dr. Arturo Cherbowski Lask, Director of Santander Universities, Dr . Advances in university entrepreneurship
In his message, Dr. Garcia stated: "I feel that progress has been made in university entrepreneurship. However, with the challenges that are to come, the transformation of the world of work and especially self-employment, where the capacity for entrepreneurship is no longer only in an external company, but within a corporation, it is necessary to implement and share new visions".
He added that MetaRed X Mexico is made up of 36 Mexican universities, divided into three working groups: indicators, training and collaboration models. "These 36 institutions have had an impact on 120 universities, with the aim of boosting collaboration, providing entrepreneurship tools and improving ecosystems at the national and international level," he said.
He also took the opportunity to mention those who have led MetaRed X Mexico projects, and who have promoted the project:
- Juan Alberto González Piñón, executive secretary of MetaRed X Mexico and corporate director of innovation and transfer at Panamericana.
- Francisco Barrera, from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.
- Elia Aquino, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.
- Eduardo Urzúa, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
Opportunity to share practices
Tomás Jiménez, said: "This conference will allow us to share a series of efforts that we have to make regarding the importance of working in a network. In order to share the best practices that we have in each of the latitudes on entrepreneurship issues, the MetaNet is fundamental".
Arturo Cherbowski stated: "University entrepreneurship is changing. From having been a very mature ecosystem, where many capital funds began to arrive, these have ended; challenges that, in 20 years of working in university entrepreneurship, we have not yet solved".
"It is important that we continue to share the best practices we have in each of our latitudes(...) In addition, we still have many issues to resolve on how to generate a better transfer of knowledge, how to generate more patents, how to generate more momentum for successful businesses, how we begin to measure the impact of through the entrepreneurs of our universities," he said.
Main points
The main points addressed during the two-day conference were:
- The construction of joint models to increase knowledge transfer results.
- Technological development and entrepreneurship of Ibero-American universities.
- To help create entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems, especially in the Network's areas of influence and taking into account local conditions.
- To develop contents for the training of teachers in entrepreneurship.
Conclusions
It was concluded that universities should guarantee the formation of an entrepreneurial culture that continuously incorporates scientific and technological progress .
The above, in order to build the appropriate conditions for the flourishing of entrepreneurship and innovation; making knowledge a strategic factor for the creation of new companies, capable of generating social and economic benefits.
For Panamericana, it is desirable that the scientific and technological advances, already implemented in the environments of its schools and faculties, are transformed into opportunities for technology transfer, which generate greater strengths in the field of innovation in companies and society.
Thus, the aim is to promote the creation of technological capabilities to face the uncertainties generated by the current global competitive environment.
