Mexico City, September 27, 2022.- In order to broaden the horizons of the knowledge of its students and give them a comprehensive view of what is happening in their environment, the Universidad Panamericana receives international professors every semester in their classrooms. This is the case of Kathryn Medico, journalist and teacher from the United States, who has taught in Switzerland and has now begun teaching at the ESDAI School of Hospitality.

Reputation and quality with UP seal

There were several reasons that motivated Kathryn Medico to come to Panamericana to teach, one of them, as she explains, is the good reputation that our university has created: "the university has an excellent reputation for providing high quality education" .

He also explains that one of his fellow professors told him about his experience in Mexico, specifically at Panamericana, and how it has been one of the most interesting places in his academic teaching career .

"I have found that their students seem very engaged and very open (...) This openness and willingness to share is very valuable to you as a teacher," Kathryn says of her experience with Pan American students.

Conjugating three professions

Medico began his professional life as a journalist and lecturer in the same career. However, after the exhaustive research involved in her book A Perversion of Justice: A Southern Tragedy of Murder, Lies and Innocence Betrayed and how emotionally draining it was to delve into the story (about the real case of two children who committed a crime and were tried as adults) Kathryn decided to take a break from journalism.

It was during this break that she got the opportunity to work as a manager at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Florida and began her transition from journalism to the hospitality industry with good results.

These three professions Medico has managed to combine to help her students achieve their goals: "As a journalist I learned to be a good listener, as a hospitality professional I developed a very sincere desire to make people happy and as a teacher, I can use both of these important skills in my interaction with students.

ESDAI and hospitality in Mexico

Starting this new phase at ESDAI has brought Kathryn several rewards, not so much for teaching theory, but for the impact she has been able to have on her students in another way: "I love the opportunity to have an impact on a more personal level. I love having the students develop their skills and focus on how to become self-actualized."

Also, because Panamericana is a Mexican university, she has had the opportunity to learn about hospitality in our country, which she describes as "sincere". " Many people from other cultures know how to provide great service, but I feel that the heart is the great motivator in Mexico," she says.

"Thank you for such a warm welcome and allowing me to teach such committed and joyful trainees! It is a highlight of my career," says Kathryn about her time at ESDAI. Likewise, she advises her students: "Rather than seeking success, I encourage them to aspire to self-realization; if they develop only their brain and not their heart, they will only use half of their potential".
