This step is part of the Actions with ECO campaign, which aims to raise awareness among the university community about the importance of protecting the ecosystem through our actions.
This is a significant movement in the formation of each Panamerican member, because the awareness that what we do has an impact on our environment contributes to the transformation of a population that manages to minimize the problems that human beings have generated .
After it became known that cigarette smoke generates a high level of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and that consumers of this product produce around 225 thousand tons of carbon dioxide each year, the campaign "100% Smoke Free Campus" was created . "100% Smoke Free Campus" campaign was created..
In addition, as a smoke-free institution, Panamericana is bound by the rules and sanctions established by the General Law for Tobacco Control, the Regulations of the General Law for Tobacco Control and the Law for the Protection of the Health of Non-Smokers in Mexico City.
It is worth mentioning that this initiative not only protects non-smokers, but also provides smokers with the possibility of reducing their habitual consumption by being forced not to smoke on a recurrent basis, a measure that encourages them to quit gradually.
Elimination of smoking areas
However, the World Health Organization (WHO) points out that ventilation does not reduce exposure to tobacco smoke, since being near someone who smokes in an open place means being exposed to its effects in a similar way as in a closed place. That is why these smoking areas were eliminated on campuses.
"Today, anyone who decides to smoke has to leave the university campus. There are security guards who help us supervise that students are not in the vaper, smoking, etc., as well as officials or people from outside the university," says José Manuel Lara Silva, general manager of operations at the Panamericana campus Aguascalientes.
In addition, different strategies were launched to disseminate this initiative, such as signs, illustrations and signs throughout the university to encourage the university community to join this campaign.
