UP celebrates presentation of Carrera de los Sueños

Mexico City, December 9, 2022. Universidad Panamericana we are convinced that the relationship between companies and universities is increasingly necessary, which is why the Career Servicesarea carried out the presentation and awarding of the Carrera de los Sueños 2022.

Carrera de los Sueños is a research that has been carried out for more than 20 years, whose purpose is to respond to the concerns and preferences of young professionals at the time of taking their first steps in the working world, in addition to knowing the aspirational companies of the new generations.

Dr. Santiago García Álvarez celebrated the event and spoke about the educational offerings that Panamericana offers in postgraduate programs.

He also gave the example of HIPODEC: "We at UP have seen the need for an area dedicated to special programs and continuing education, HIPODEC, which has the concept of continually updating study programs not only from the faculties, but in a concrete way from specific problems that companies have".

He also mentioned: "We think that the link between companies and universities is very important, but also the fact that companies are concerned about how to be attractive to students seems to me to be extremely relevant".

Next, Ivette Calvet, director of Cia de Talentos Mexico, took the stage and presented the results of the Dream Career 2022 survey. "All of us here today have a genuine interest in the development of young people," said Calvet.

He explained that the companies present were there with the intention of "listening to what young people need in order to retain young talent and attract the best to their companies".

He indicated that 66% of those surveyed were students and 34% were recent graduates between 19 and 26 years of age, of whom only 28% had never worked. He explained that it has been seen that today it is important for companies to play an active role in social issues, as this is a factor that generates trust among young people.

He also said that the pandemic, despite the economic crisis it brought, caused a high rate of resignations and among young people, as it was found that 61% plan to change jobs in the coming months, 9% do not because they have just changed and only 30% said they are fine in their current job.

"If you notice, there are 70% of young people who are uncomfortable in their jobs. This means a huge opportunity for companies: either I look at the 61% who want to leave me, to listen to them and understand what they need, or I look at those from other companies who want to leave so that they look at me; but I have to reevaluate what young people are looking for and in what sense they are restless in their work," he said.

He also pointed out that what young people are looking for in a job today is how it impacts their lives and gives them well-being, experiences that support their growth and sense of belonging, but he clarified that it is also important to teach them how to deal with frustration.
