Mexico City, August 11, 2026. – The Universidad Panamericana and Mercado Libre signed an inter-campus agreement aimed at strengthening academic training, technological innovation, employability, and professional connections for the institution’s students and graduates
The signing ceremony took place in the Aula Magna on the Mexico City campus and was attended by Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, dean of the Mexico City campus; Dr. Antonio de los Reyes Moreno, dean of the Aguascalientes campus; and Dr. Javier Blanco Herrera, Country People Director for Mexico at Mercado Libre.

Promoting Employability and Cutting-Edge Talent
The agreement opens up new opportunities to bring the university community closer to the professional and technological ecosystem of one of Latin America's leading e-commerce and technology companies.
Among the initiatives that may be developed through this partnership are internships, keynote lectures, training programs, job shadowing , and participation in industry events, creating opportunities for learning and direct contact with the business sector.
In this regard, Dr. Javier Blanco Herrera emphasized the importance of this partnership in fostering students' professional development:
“It’s an honor to be here at the university because the goal of this agreement is to strengthen and nurture the talent we’re identifying on our teams, and now we’re going to work together to continue fostering and developing that talent.”

E-commerce and a Vision for the Future
For his part, Dr. Antonio de los Reyes Moreno emphasized that this agreement addresses the current demands of the labor market and the rapid evolution of e-commerce. In this context, he highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships with key industry players that have an international impact and employ more than 36,000 people in the country:
“I want to acknowledge the professionalism and prestige of Mercado Libre, not only in Mexico but in many countries throughout Latin America. The sheer number of employees is truly astonishing to me; that is the result of the company’s hard work and highly efficient logistics.”
Dr. Santiago García Álvarez also emphasized that partnerships with leading private-sector companies are a key strategic priority for the university, which is tangibly reflected in the professional positioning and growth of its students and alumni within the digital ecosystem:
“There are more than 100 UP students at Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago, many of them in senior management positions, some working in fintech, logistics, finance, marketing, and operations. Most of those we have on record are from the Engineering department, which accounts for 45 percent; Business, at 41 percent; and other schools, at 12 percent.”
This link highlights the importance of interdisciplinary education in meeting the needs of strategic sectors of the digital economy.
