QS World University Rankings
QS World University Rankings is an annual publication that includes global and subject-based university rankings. These rankings identify the world's top universities in 53 different disciplines and in five composite areas of knowledge. In addition, QS World University Rankings also offers separate regional tables, such as Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and Central Asia, and the Arab Region.
This ranking is the most widely read worldwide and is an invaluable tool for students, researchers and professionals looking for relevant information on the most prestigious universities around the world.
About the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024
The QS Subject Rankings are a tool to assess the strength and focus of a university in a specific discipline. The rankings evaluate more than 1,500 institutions of higher education in 55 different knowledge disciplines.
The methodology used to rank universities in each subject varies according to the nature of the discipline. For example, in fields such as engineering, the ranking may focus more on research reputation and teaching quality in specialized areas. Meanwhile, in areas such as social sciences, more emphasis may be given to relevant research output and impact on society.
QS Methodology
For the evaluation, the following indicators are taken into account, giving different weights, depending on the discipline in question:
- Academic reputation: evaluated through an annual survey, which is used for the regional rankings and the world ranking. Academic reputation is measured through the opinion of academics nominated by the participating institutions themselves.
- Employer reputation: similar to academic reputation, employer reputation measures global employers' perception of universities through an annual survey.
- Citations by papermeasures the normalized number of citations per paper and per discipline for the last five years.
- H Index: measures the quality of the scientific production of institutions through citations in a given period of time.
- International Research Network (IRN): an index that measures the number of international collaborations that the institution has in the five areas of knowledge. The percentage distribution of each indicator is different for each of the 55 disciplines (see Figure 1).
In addition to the aforementioned indicators, each knowledge discipline has a specific threshold of participation to receive a ranking. The threshold of institutions depends, to a greater extent, on the number of institutions offering a given academic program, as well as the amount of scientific production produced per discipline.
Results of the Universidad Panamericana 2024
The Universidad Panamericana obtained a ranking in five different disciplines:
- Philosophy (51-100).
- Hospitality and Leisure Management (101-150).
- Business & Management Studies (251-300).
- Law & Legal Studies (251-300).
- Computer Science & Information Systems (651-700).

- Hospitality & Leisure Management obtained 2nd place nationally and 7th place in Latin America.

- In Computer Science & Information Systems we remained the second best private university in Mexico and among the top 10 private universities in Latin America.
