One example of this is the SMART Center, a place dedicated to helping students develop key skills for their academic, professional, and personal lives.
A space that promotes person-centered training
The SMART Center has established itself as a student support center dedicated to enhancing soft skills, fostering self-awareness and personal growth, and preparing students to become agents of change in their communities.
Through counseling services, educational programs, and innovative approaches such as academic coaching and digital tools, the center promotes self-awareness, lifelong learning, and the holistic development of students.
In addition, the center is part of the institutional ecosystem for pedagogical improvement, actively contributing to educational innovation through strategies that transform traditional learning into dynamic, student-centered educational experiences.
Methodologies and initiatives to develop students' potential
The SMART Center promotes various initiatives aimed at strengthening students' talents and skills, such as:
- Success Center: Workshops and Practical Programs
We offer in-person and online workshops focused on developing skills such as time management, leadership, effective communication, and career preparation, including resume writing and public speaking techniques.
- Meeting Point: Collaborative Spaces and Student Groups
This program fosters opportunities for students to come together, share interests, develop projects, form academic groups, or lead initiatives that nurture their talent and leadership within the university community.
- Advisory: personalized consulting and coaching
Through academic advising, mentoring, and coaching, students receive support in setting goals, strengthening their personal skills, and making strategic decisions for their professional development.
- Reload & Talent: Support and Development Programs
It includes initiatives focused on academic tutoring, career guidance, study skills development, stress management, and support programs for high-achieving students.
Women Driving the Development of the SMART Center
SMART Center is made up of a team of women who, in their various roles, spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing the college experience for students.
For Martha Liliana Medina, M.A., director of the SMART Center at the Universidad Panamericana Aguascalientes Universidad Panamericana , this project represents an opportunity to contribute directly to the students’ well-rounded education through a strategic, student-centered approach.
“Being part of the SMART Center means taking on the responsibility of actively contributing to students’ well-rounded education, going beyond traditional classroom instruction. It involves being part of an environment that is committed to educational innovation, personalized support, and talent development,” he says.
For her part, Ana Paula Quiroga, M.A., coordinator of the SMART Center, emphasized the importance of providing close support to students throughout their college experience. “Through my work, I can support students in their academic and personal journeys by creating spaces for listening and guidance that help them make decisions and have greater confidence in their own path.”
In the same vein, Sofía Guillén, M.A., who also serves as the school’s coordinator, emphasized how meaningful it has been for her to be part of this project, seeing it as an opportunity to contribute ideas that inspire the students.
“Through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to various projects that help students develop skills that complement their college experience beyond the academic realm,” he says.
Finally, Daniela Salazar, coordinator of Smart Clubs, International Students, and Foreign Students, who works closely with the SMART Center as part of the Office of Student Life, explained that her work focuses on fostering student engagement and creativity.
“Our goal is for students to feel heard and for their ideas to be turned into projects that make a difference in the university community,” he notes.
He also emphasized the importance of building a sense of community, especially for students who come from other cities to study here. He also highlighted initiatives focused on student well-being, such as the UPMIND project, which promotes mental health through activities related to art, culture, play, and social interaction.
Education that goes beyond the classroom
One of the SMART Center’s most significant achievements has been to build an ecosystem that fosters student participation in high-impact initiatives related to educational innovation and social entrepreneurship.
Thanks to this support, students from the Universidad Panamericana participated in international competitions and platforms such as the Hult Prize, Enactus, TEDx, and Coparmex through initiatives like Coparmex Tank.
In these forums, students receive strategic mentoring, preparatory workshops, and support in developing projects, thereby strengthening skills such as interdisciplinary work, creativity, and real-world problem-solving.
