Mexico City, February 12, 2026.–The Universidad Panamericana proud Universidad Panamericana the appointment ofDr. Laura Trujillo Liñán, a research professor at the School of Communication on the Mexico City campus, aspresident of the Media Ecology Association (MEA)forthe 2026–2027 term.
The outgoing vice president of the association has become thefirst Mexican scholarto hold the top position at this organization, founded in 1998, which is dedicated to the study of media environments through the intellectual traditions of thinkers such as Marshall McLuhan, Neil Postman, and Walter Ong.
“Taking on the presidency represents a greater intellectual and ethical responsibility for me: not only to support the association’s vision, as I did as vice president, but now strategically guiding its academic direction, its international outreach, and the consolidation of its theoretical legacy,” said Dr. Trujillo Liñán.
From Mexico to the World: A Strategic Vision
The appointment, officially announced on the MEA website, places the Universidad Panamericana the center of the global academic dialogue on the impact of technology on culture, education, and society.
“This appointment is not just personal, but institutional. It represents international recognition of the academic work carried out at the Universidad Panamericana in the fields of communication, the humanities, philosophy, education, and technology,” the researcher noted.

During her tenure as vice president, Dr. Trujillo Liñán spearheaded strategic initiatives that are now bearing fruit. Among them was the organization of the MEA 2025 Congress, held in Mexico with the participation of the Pan-American Association, an event that the scholar herself describes as “a watershed moment for building bridges of collaboration” between our university and the association.

Among the flagship projects that the new president will lead are:
- Aformal partnership with the journal *Frontiers in Communication*, establishing a high-impact academic publication channel.
- The organizers of the 27th MEA Congress in Winnipeg, Canada—a city that was home to Marshall McLuhan and his family for several years. During the event, Dr. Trujillo Liñán will deliver her first official speech as president.
- The development ofa joint program with the Universidad Panamericana, described by the professor herself as “one of our major projects”.
In addition, the new board of directors will seek to foster formal partnerships with universities in Latin America and Europe, COIL collaborative projects, traveling international seminars, and joint publications in Scopus-indexed journals.
Academic innovation and the education of future generations
One of the central pillars of her tenure willbe fostering the next generation of scholars. Dr. Trujillo Liñán plans to create dedicated spaces for students and young researchers at conferences, as well as academic mentoring programs and calls for international collaborative research.

“I aim to foster greater engagement among students and faculty in these areas of research, which are essential given the technological changes we are currently experiencing,”he said.
As part of this vision, it will promote the use ofdigital tools and artificial intelligence as educational resourcesto introduce media ecology to younger generations, integrating technology and critical thinking.
A message to the UP community
Dr. Trujillo Liñán concluded with a message directed at faculty and students at the Universidad Panamericana: “This appointment also serves as an invitation for more UP faculty and students to actively participate in global academic networks and to understand that from Mexico, we can influence intellectual debates of global significance.”
