Are you indifferent or different?

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; March 15, 2023.—The Art and Culture Department at the Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara Campus is preparing a performance to commemorate March 8, International Women’s Day.

UP Dance Project

Students from the Danza UP dance troupe and students from various academic programs created the campaign “Are You Indifferent or Different?” The campaign will run throughout the month of March to promote respect and healthy self-esteem among women. This is an important and urgent issue that must be addressed.

Mafer Gonzalez, an Innovation and Design Engineering student and scholarship recipient who leads the Danza UP student group, commented: “We want to encourage reflection on our attitudes toward ourselves. The respect we show others is a reflection of who we are inside.” The campaign kicked off on March 8 at 8:00 a.m., with information booths set up across campus, and will culminate on March 29 with “Indiferentes,” an event expected to draw an audience of more than 1,000 people.

This is a contemporary dance production that, through music, objects, and lighting effects, aims to prompt deep reflection on the diverse situations women face today. This project began in mid-2022 with the active participation of the “Council for Women in the Arts.”

“To bring about change as a society, the solution is not to be indifferent; we must start by changing ourselves,” said Elizabeth Cortés, a professor with the Danza UP dance troupe.

It is important to start by educating society and raising awareness about values such as empathy, commitment, tolerance, and respect for women. It is also very important to support women in their achievements and challenges, recognizing their talents and abilities, and valuing their contributions in all areas of society.

We must work together to create an environment of respect and tolerance, where women can reach their full potential and achieve their goals and aspirations! And you—are you indifferent or different?
