New Season of "Les Miserables" School Edition at the Aguascalientes Theater

Thanks to the great success of the musical based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo, "Les Miserables" School Edition will be presented for the second time by the Universidad Panamericana Campus Aguascalientes, with the license of the Music Theatre International based in New York, in charge of the Department of Arts and Culture of the University.

The characters will be played in their entirety by about 40 students of the institution and 5 children from different schools, with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. The musical work by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Shönberg will be performed live by an orchestra of 50 young musicians and more than 60 students will be involved in the set design and production work.

The general production is under the direction of Michelle Raimond, director of the Arts and Culture Department at Universidad Panamericana. Diego Cervantes directs the stage, supported by Rafael Paniagua as general director, Alan Paniagua as set designer, Carlos Calvillo as musical director, María José Armendáriz as stage manager and Grethel Arcos as academic coordinator and liaison.

Also participating are professors Carolina Esparza and Francisco Álvarez as choral conductors, Paola Carlín as vocal coach, Lily Cruz as assistant conductor, musicians Jesús Hernández, Lalo Hernández, Luis Amador, Iván Ruiz and Ángel López in the orchestration and Álvaro de León in the coordination of the photography team.

The costumes are by Rosa María Zavala and Sonia Loera and the lighting work is by Alejandro López Salas.

History of Les Miserables

Set in France in the early 19th century, the show tells the story of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict of extraordinary strength who seeks redemption after serving nineteen years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. Unable to get an honest job because of his past, Valjean finds his way through the compassion of a kindly bishop, who inspires him to start a new life. While suffering the relentless persecution of Inspector Javert through the years, Valjean along with a series of characters will be involved in the midst of a revolution in the streets of Paris.

"Los Miserables" School Edition in Aguascalientes is an incredible artistic experience performed by young people that was attended by more than 4,000 spectators in the first season.

The next performances are: Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21.
