Mexico City, August 15, 2025.— The Universidad Panamericana preparing to hold a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe on August 23. This event is part of the Jubilee Year 2025, declared by the Catholic Church as the Year of Hope.
This Jubilee, celebrated every 25 years, is an opportunity to receive special graces, renew our faith, and strengthen our hope. “2025 is a very special year because many people need to regain hope—the kind that never fails and that only God can grant us,”, shares Father Juan Carlos Ibarra Benítez, chaplain at the Universidad Panamericana Mexico City Universidad Panamericana .

The Meaning of the Pilgrimage
Father Ibarra explained that a pilgrim is someone who sets out on a journey toward a goal. In this case, the Basilica of Guadalupe symbolizes not only a physical destination, but also a reminder that “in this life we are just passing through, walking toward heaven, and we do not do so alone: we go with God and with others.”

Every year, the Basilica welcomes millions of people who come to seek the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many educational institutions take part in this act of faith, and the Universidad Panamericana want to be left behind.

In 2025, the pilgrimage takes on special significance: the Basilica is one of three churches in Mexico City where the faithful can earn the Jubilee, that is, receive a plenary indulgence by passing through the Holy Door, a symbol of Christ and spiritual renewal.
Spiritual Impact on the University Community
Father Juan Carlos emphasizes that the pilgrimage will allow participants to receive abundant spiritual graces: “God grants His blessing to those who walk toward Him. If many of us in our community draw closer to God, the atmosphere at the university will be more beautiful; we will be able to study and work with peace and hope.”
The pilgrimage aims to bring together students, faculty, and staff in a shared act of faith, strengthening the sense of community and reminding us that university life is also built on transcendent values.

A call to join us
In this way, Father Ibarra encourages the university community: “Go to the Basilica with an open heart, to receive from God, through Mary, the hope that does not disappoint.” He also reminds us: “(…) the next jubilee will be in 25 years, and we must not let this unique opportunity pass us by.”

The Universidad Panamericana pilgrimage Universidad Panamericana the Basilica of Guadalupe will be a spiritual and communal experience that will leave a lasting impression on this academic year. More than just a physical journey, it will be a path of faith, hope, and unity for all who choose to undertake it.
