First Ranking of Urban Human Potential 2023 announced

Zapopan, Jalisco; January8, 2024. Universidad Panamericana (UP) presented the first Ranking of Urban Human Potential (CHPR) 2023, a groundbreaking assessment of human potential in the 100 largest cities of the BRICS+ countries. This groundbreaking ranking, developed using the methodology of the UNESCO methodology under the leadership of Pan American and with the guidance of an international team of researchers, serves as a crucial tool for understanding and improving the prospects for socioeconomic development in these emerging urban centers.

The CHPR evaluates cities based on 197 primary indicators and 30 complex indicators in key domains: Education, Labor Market and Technologies. This comprehensive assessment aims to evaluate the quality and growth prospects of a city's population potential ("People for the city"), as well as the opportunities that cities offer for the development and fulfillment of their inhabitants ("City for people").

CHPR 2023 Highlights

  1. Major cities: Moscow, Hong Kong and Shanghai lead the ranking, showing superior performance in fostering and harnessing human potential.
  2. Methodological Innovation: The CHPR integrates quantitative data with qualitative perspectives, capturing the various aspects of urban development.
  3. Focus on Sustainable Development: The ranking highlights the alignment of cities with the Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting their commitment to improving the well-being and quality of life of inhabitants.

Professor Guillermo Sosa Gómez, Scientific Director of the CHPR and Professor - Researcher at the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences of the Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara Campus, commented: "The Ranking of Urban Human Potential is not only a snapshot of current capabilities; it is a testimony of a city's commitment to its future, its people and sustainable progress".
