Panamericana professor obtains Ph.D. in Engineering

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; December 6, 2023.- Alejandro Cortés Leal, professor at Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, has successfully completed his PhD in Engineering. His research, based on an applied approach, focused on the formulation and validation of a framework oriented towards the resilience of industrial physical assets in collaboration with the human factor.

Doctorate in Engineering

This innovative framework proposed by Cortés Leal encompasses the definitions of maintenance 5.0 and worker 5.0, perceived to be in tune with the trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, known as Industry 4.0/5.0.

Obtaining this doctorate not only represents an academic achievement but also brings remarkable pride for Cortés Leal. "Obtaining this Ph.D. leaves me with the great satisfaction of having made contributions through two publications indexed in JCR, opening an unpublished line of research in intelligent maintenance for the Industry of the future: maintenance 5.0," he commented.

Challenges along the way

The personal and professional process to reach this milestone was not without its challenges. A part-timedoctorate demanded considerable personal sacrifice, balancing work, family and research responsibilities. Professionally , "it hasbeena process of continuous improvement, first with the subjects I took, then with the publication process, and finally withthe writing and defense of the doctoral thesis".

In addition, the researcher identifies the approach of a new line of research and the publication process as the main challenges faced. Proposing original and novel contributions in the field of intelligent manufacturing and publication in JCR-indexed journals demanded considerable effort.

Digitalisco.mx

As an initial part of the PhD, Dr. Alejandro Cortés promoted the digitalisco.mx initiative, for training, consulting and projects of industrial digital transformation. "I really enjoyed making new contributions of impact for the Industry, opening the way for the development of Maintenance 5.0, as well as the characteristics that the Industry 4.0/5.0 Worker will have".

Acknowledgments

The Panamericana professor thanks his Thesis Directors, Dr. Carolina del Valle Soto (UP Campus Guadalajara), and Dr. César Raúl Cárdenas Pérez (UNIR México), who "provided him with excellent advice and motivation.provided excellent advice and motivation".

Dr. Cortés Leal invites the university community to be leaders in their profession, seeking continuous theoretical and practical training. "To achieve this , it is important to know how to do research under the guidance of a good Thesis Director, and to form a network of professional contacts that allows you to interact with colleagues with the same interests".

The Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara congratulates Dr. Alejandro Cortés Leal for his outstanding achievement and hopes that his contribution will continue to inspire the university community to reach new goals and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their respective disciplines.
