To start the congress, the Academic Vice Rector of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, Carlos López, shared some words of reflection, stating that:

"Today in Mexico, more than 90% of companies are family-owned. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them do not make it past the first generation. Approximately 66% of these companies remain in the first generation, 30% go on to the second, 4% to the third, and 1% to the fourth or successive generations."

In his lecture "Preserving the family legacy from generation to generation", Pedro Regueiro, stated that "Leaderships are not assigned by hand, but emerge naturally at the right time, but to enable these leaderships to emerge we have to have an institutional structure that allows this leadership to emerge without conflict".
