The "Boom" of Clinical Psychology

Aguascalientes, Ags. February 27, 2023.- Master Alejandro de los Reyes, coordinator of the Psychology program of the School of Pedagogy at our Panamerican University of Education, in Aguascalientes, Ags.PanamericanaHe tells us about the boom of clinical psychology in Mexico.

Clinical Psychology

It was in the early years of the twentieth century when the Austrian physician Sigmund Freud launched the psychoanalytic theory where for the first time the power of the unconscious forces of the mind over conscious behavior and physical health was proven, and from that moment a remarkable and scientific development of that new discipline of those years called psychology arose.

There are different perspectives or paradigms of psychology: the aforementioned psychoanalysis, behaviorism, humanism, neuropsychology, but all of them do not contradict each other but rather, have synergized to explain to people the biological functioning of the mind, the perception of the world and most importantly why we behave in a certain way (human behavior).

Clinical Psychology in Mexico

In Mexico only in the fifties of the last century (XX) the scientific study of Psychology began and in the seventies the first psychology degrees were opened and in the interior of the Republic, including Aguascalientes, this fact took place until the 1980s and 1990s.

One of the strongest and most interesting approaches in psychology is clinical psychology, which is based on the study of normal and pathological behavior; that is, how functional we are in our relationship with ourselves and with other people, how much acceptance we have in our social life, and how self-realized we feel or how satisfied we are with our daily lives.

Well-being and professional support

Going to therapy with your psychologist has gone in less than a decade from being a taboo, to being part of a healthy person who seeks to grow in all aspects of life, especially in their behavior and emotions; people seek emotional well-being and know that if they lose that well-being it even affects their physical health and social relationships.

Care should be taken to choose a good psychotherapist, preferably one who is a clinical psychologist and/or has expertise in clinical intervention depending on the person's needs or what he/she wants to work on.

Finally, if you are a young person looking to study psychology, take into account that there are many branches of psychology, as for example in our Universidad Panamericana Campus Aguascalientes our graduation profile is mainly clinical; in addition to looking for a certified university, with agreements for internships and social service and adequate facilities for the theory and practice that requires the career of Clinical Psychology.
