The Universidad Panamericana the EVOLVE era: revolutionizing its digital ecosystem for the education of the future

Mexico City, September 10, 2025.— With an unprecedented investment in educational technology, the Universidad Panamericana officially Universidad Panamericana Project EVOLVE, the most ambitious digital transformation in its history, which for the first time unifies its academic, administrative, and human resources operations across all its campuses on a single integrated platform.

The launch event brought together more than 500 members of the university community—both in person and virtually—including university officials, presidents, vice presidents, deans, professors, administrative staff, and student representatives from the Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Aguascalientes campuses, marking a milestone in the institution’s history.

From Vulnerability to the Forefront: The Catalyst Behind EVOLVE

Dr. Fernanda Llergo Bay, President of the Universidad Panamericana IPADE, revealed the turning point that accelerated this transformation: a sophisticated ransomware cyberattack on December 25, 2021, that brought the university’s servers to a standstill.

Although this incident was critical, it highlighted not only the vulnerability of outdated and fragmented systems but also the dedication of the IT team that worked over Christmas to resolve the crisis. “It was the best thing that could have happened to the university, admitted Dr. Llergo, as it revealed the urgent need for modernization and digital consolidation.

The metaphor of the new home: A unified ecosystem

Cecilia Canal, M.A., Vice President of the Mexico City Campus, illustrated the process with a powerful metaphor: “We are in a new digital home”. She acknowledged that, as with any move, there will be a period of adjustment with unforeseen challenges, just as there are with a new home, but that this new space represents growth and an improved environment for the entire community.

This new “digital home” breaks down the barriers between the different campuses, finally allowing a student from Aguascalientes to take courses in Guadalajara or Mexico City without complex bureaucratic procedures or credit transfer issues, making the concept of a truly universidad panamericana a reality.

Strengthening the Table: The Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Dr. Santiago García, Dean of the Mexico City Campus, shared the insightful analysis conducted by the global consulting firmAccenture(the project’s technology partner).

He compared the Pan-American University to a four-legged table: the academic, the student, the research, and the technology legs. While the first three were “super strong, the technology leg was “weak” and didn’t measure up, like “an arm in a cast.”

“EVOLVE is investing heavily in this area to create a solid foundation that will enable the university to move forward in a comprehensive and balanced way,”, he explained.

Finally, Dr. García extended a special thank you to the more than 100 staff members who served on the implementation committees and who, in addition to their daily duties, devoted countless hours of overtime to making this project a reality. He also recognized the leadership of the Digital Transformation team for their technical expertise and spirit of service.

The new digital core: SAP S/4HANA and Blackboard

Begoña Noriega Olalde, Director of Change Management, outlined the technical architecture of the new ecosystem, which consists of:

  • Blackboard Ultra:the new learning platform, which the Universidad Panamericana the first to implement in Mexico.
  • SAP S/4HANA:the unified hub for finance, human resources, accounting, and administration.
  • SAP SuccessFactors:for talent and human capital management.
  • SAP Ariba: for purchasing and procurement.
  • SAP Student Lifecycle Management (Student LM):manages the entire student journey, from the application for admission until the student becomes an alumnus.

The 5-tier support network

To ensure a successful transition, a multi-tiered technical support structure was put in place:

  1. Self-service:chatbots powered by artificial intelligence and natural language processing.
  2. CAUCD (Center for User Support and Digital Services):the first point of contact for common issues.
  3. "The Bunker":internal interdisciplinary teams dedicated to resolving complex incidents in a centralized manner.
  4. In-house Technical Experts:developers and specialists from the Universidad Panamericana.
  5. External Experts:Accenture consultants and direct support from SAP and Blackboard.
  6. More Than Just Technology: Making Time for What Matters Most

More than just technology: time for what really matters

The ultimate goal of EVOLVE is not technological, but human. By automating bureaucratic processes and consolidating data, the platform frees up thousands of hours of administrative work so that professors, researchers, and staff can focus on what truly matters: personalized instruction, mentoring, high-quality research, and educational innovation. It is a tool at the service of people and the educational mission,”, emphasized the Rector General.

A precedent for higher education in Mexico

With EVOLVE, the Universidad Panamericana is Universidad Panamericana only modernizing; it is redefining itself. It is establishing itself as the first institution in Mexico to undertake a digital transformation of this magnitude with SAP, setting a precedent in Latin American higher education and reaffirming its commitment to providing a first-rate education that is deeply human and at the cutting edge of technology.
