Zapopan, Jalisco, February 13, 2024 - The Law School of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara held the ninth edition of the preparation rounds entitled "Law Pre Moot", in which 12 Universities participated with the objective of gaining experience and preparation for the Willem C. Vis Moot international commercial arbitration competition in Vienna and Hong Kong.
In pursuit of excellence
The Pre-Moot was comprised of elite and leading universities in the area of law studies of international and national origin. Such universities were the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Law School of the National University of India, the University of Alexandria, the University of Carthage, the University of Pretoria, the National University of Colombia, the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, the Universidad Panamericana Campus Aguascalientes, Mexico City and Guadalajara.
How was the preparation?
These training rounds began with the thematic session entitled Do's and Don'ts Session, under the direction of Dr. Ingeborg Schwenzer, Dean of the Swiss International Law School and Professor Emeritus of Private Law at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Dr. David Tebel, co-founder and partner of the international law firm Rothorn Legal. They served as judges during the competition.
Following this introduction, the first of three rounds began. The Oral round consisted of a debate between two universities, both of which have defined demand and response roles. These debate sessions were held in different locations of the University and each one was attended by three referees "from the professional field of law".
At the end of the competition, the team representing the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara stood out in both categories (classroom and hybrid). The team from the University of Pretoria obtained the highest score in the hybrid category with a total of 557 points, followed by the Law School of the National University of India (527 points) and the team from the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara (518,666). In the on-site category, the team from Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara achieved a total of 518.666 points, followed by the team from Universidad Panamericana Campus Aguascalientes (498.66 points) and the team from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (498.5 points).
