Entrepreneurship, networking and innovation: keeping a company alive

Mexico City, May 23, 2023 - Entrepreneurship is currently a key factor in all countries, both developed and less developed, as it has a significant impact on poverty reduction, job creation, sustainable development and the revitalization of the environment.

At the same time, entrepreneurship creates innovation for the development, growth and competitiveness of companies. Thus, the greater the number of entrepreneurs in a country, the more job opportunities and greater possibilities for innovation, and therefore all this contributes to the improvement of the country's economy and the quality of life of the people.

These are facts that Dr. Antonia Terán Bustamante, a researcher at the School of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Mexico, Mexico City campus, has been able to confirm through three different investigations. Company-university linkage

According to the doctor, it is essential that all companies continue to be entrepreneurial throughout their life cycle, as this allows them to continue to innovate and become more competitive.

"Intrapreneurship, also known as corporate entrepreneurship helps the company to renew and revitalize the business, innovate and improve its commercial performance," says Dr. Terán.

On which he adds: "This intra-entrepreneurship takes place among employees within an organization, whereas entrepreneurship tends to be mainly concentrated externally".

Regarding the linkage with universities and research centers to carry out joint projects, the doctor states that it is a very important activity for both actors.

"This link between academia and the productive sector stimulates the use of the results of research activities carried out in academia to translate them into economic and social value, in which both actors win," he explains.

Some results

The doctor points out that the results of this research, although they cannot be generalized, "show an excellent example of a company that has developed organizational competencies to be able to link up adequately with universities and research centers," she says.

He adds that this characteristic has allowed Instituto Bioclon to innovate by improving its processes and generating more products to patent in a sector as difficult as the biopharmaceutical sector (due to the regulations and processes that have to be carried out in order to launch a new product).
