First generation of the Doctorate in Business Sciences

Mexico City, November 29, 2023.- Universidad Panamericana has just seen the graduation of its first generation of the Doctorate in Business Sciences. This program, created with the purpose of meeting the academic and research demands in the business and educational fields, has provided its students with a unique and enriching experience.

This is a program of the School of Business of the University of California at La Salle. Universidad PanamericanaThe program offers rigorous preparation for academic and/or professional practice, as well as solid training for the development of research that produces innovative knowledge.

A value proposition

Dr. Connie Atristain Suárez, director of the program, explains that the program has three lines of research:

  1. Business Strategy.
  2. Business and Marketing Intelligence.
  3. Finance

He also affirms that its value proposition is centered on four pillars: 1) academic and research rigor; 2) quality and reputation of the faculty; 3) training of researchers; 4) terminal efficiency.

The doctor explains that applicants must have a deep interest in administrative and economic sciences, as well as in the generation of frontier knowledge for the solution of complex problems in organizations, as well as in the educational field.

Specifically, the student profile focuses on:

  • Experienced professionals in business or organizational leadership positions with an interest in applied research to solve business problems through evidence-based and research-based approaches.
  • Academics committed to high quality research and who wish to combine research and teaching in their career, with the objective of reaching the highest educational level and contributing to knowledge in their field.

 

In addition, this first generation, made up of five students, had the opportunity to participate in various international conferences, such as:

  • XIX Latin American and Iberoamerican Congress on Technology and Innovation Management - ALTEC.
  • 5th EAI International Conference on Computer Science and Engineering in Health Services.
  • Anahuac International Congress on Social Responsibility.
  • XXV International Congress on Administrative Sciences Research: ACACIA 2022.
  • International Congress on Financial Economics and Risk Management 2022.

Connection with industry and academia

Because of the central objective of the doctoral program and the profile sought from students as professionals in the industry, Dr. Atristain points out that the aim is to link the university with the company and vice versa through research.

"We do not intend to have a relationship of only four years that the program lasts, but to have a long-term relationship, to continue doing research together with the research professors of the faculty," says the director.

He also states: "The vision is that every company and organization should consider Universidad Panamericana as a great ally in research for its development and economic growth".

In addition, Dr. Atristain comments, "It is expected that the impact on the business and academic environment in Mexico can translate into significant progress in both academic research and business practice," says Dr. Atristain.

Research networks and professional growth

Opportunities for research networking and professional growth during and after the doctoral program are built through intergenerational living, participation in research seminars, international congresses and doctoral defenses.

"All this promotes collaboration and exchange of ideas, as students interact with other students and academics from our institution and from other national and international institutions, as well as with professionals and experts in their field," she says.

He adds: "This facilitates the exchange of ideas, perspectives and approaches, which can significantly enrich their understanding and deepening of their line of study, as well as the development of research and professional networks.

Finally, Dr. Connie Atristain states that the experience she has had as program director has been very enriching and at the same time very challenging.

"It is a program that I had the opportunity to open in 2018 and lead from scratch, design the operational, academic and research model, with a focus on processes in order to have an effective and efficient model(...) All with great achievements and satisfaction!", he concludes.
