Zapopan, Jalisco; June 8, 2026.- Dr . Samuel Moisés Nucamendi Guillén, research professor and head of the Academy of Operations at the School of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Guadalajara ( Universidad Panamericana ), Guadalajara campus, was named a Young Scholar by the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), an organization with nearly 70 years of experience dedicated to advancing science and research in Mexico.
The award, granted for a period of seven years, recognizes researchers under the age of 40 who have demonstrated an outstanding scientific track record and made significant contributions in their fields of expertise. The award ceremony was held at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Recognition of Excellence in Scientific Research
The appointment as a Young Scholar of the AMC represents a significant recognition of Dr. Nucamendi’s work in the field of logistics, optimization, and routing research—areas with strategic applications for the distribution of goods, mobility, and the operational efficiency of organizations.
To become a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the researcher underwent a selection process that included a formal nomination by a full member of the institution, as well as an evaluation of his academic career, scientific output, and research impact.
In addition to recognizing his scientific contributions, this appointment strengthens opportunities for national and international collaboration, as well as participation in high-level research networks.
Key Aspects of the Process
An expert in operations research, logistics, and routing problems, Dr. Samuel Nucamendi noted that discipline, perseverance, and specialization have been key factors in his professional development.
He points out that maintaining a disciplined balance between teaching and research is key. He also notes that his line of research has recently gained prominence due to its applications in distribution and logistics processes.
For the scholar, it is rewarding to see how his research has a real impact on everyday life, which has also been a source of motivation throughout his career.
Promote new research opportunities
As a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, Dr. Nucamendi seeks to strengthen the participation of researchers from the National Institute of Health ( Universidad Panamericana ) in national and international academic networks, as well as to promote new opportunities for scientific collaboration.

A recognition built through collaboration
Dr. Samuel Nucamendi is currently on a research fellowship in Spain, where he continues to work on international collaborative projects.
The scholar acknowledged the support of his family, the National Council for Science and Technology ( Universidad Panamericana ), and various researchers with whom he has worked at the regional, national, and international levels. He extended special thanks to Dr. Eric Cuevas, who supported his candidacy with a letter of recommendation, as well as to scholars from institutions such as the University of Guadalajara, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, the Monterrey Institute of Technology, and the Autonomous University of Coahuila, among others.

Dr. Nucamendi emphasized that institutional support has been key to his scientific development, providing him with opportunities to participate in international conferences, publish specialized research, and undertake academic stays abroad.
Finally, he invited students and researchers interested in this field to reach out to those who have already traveled that path and take advantage of existing opportunities for collaboration.
