Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, July 18, 2025.—Dr. Dr. Julieta Domínguez Soberanes, a research professor at the Universidad Panamericana AguascalientesUniversidad Panamericana was selected to participate in the international program Sustainable Food Systems: Resource Efficiency, Food Loss and Food Waste, organized by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
Transforming the Future of Food
As an expert in agri-food and sustainable development, Dr. Domínguez received a fellowship that enabled her to participate in this prestigious program focused on food system efficiency and the reduction of food loss and waste.
““My experience was very important for my professional development. I brought my knowledge of sustainability issues up to date, given that Denmark is one of the leading countries that has promoted this movement and shift toward becoming as economically sustainable as possible as a society,” says the professor.
During the course, led by experts Henning Otte Hansen and Thomas Laage-Thomsen, participants addressed issues critical to the world’s food systems: the efficient use of resources, reducing food losses, and combating food waste.
The program included visits to leading sustainability companies such as Danish Crown, Arla Foods, Solrød Biogas Plant, and SEGES, where the professor gained firsthand insight into responsible production models and innovative technology.
“I had the opportunity to learn how various production systems work, such as incineration processes and biogas-based energy production, among others. The experience was extremely enriching,” he adds.
UP Participates in International Forums Promoting Sustainability
A highlight of the program was Dr. Julieta’s participation in the conference at the University of Copenhagen, where she presented several initiatives currently underway in Mexico to promote sustainability.
“One example is the case of the Mexican Institute of Swine Farming is developing strategies for the production chain; in particular, it is implementing certain consumption ideas so that all parts of a product can be utilized, resulting in zero food waste and better nutrition for people,” adds the professor.
In addition, Dr. Julieta delved deeper into the analysis of sustainable value chains and learned how to develop solutions that have a positive impact on the environment and food security.
During the event, the professor also had the opportunity to collaborate with representatives from companies such as Unilever and Danish officials, exploring potential synergies between Mexico and Denmark in the areas of agricultural innovation and food security.
