Zapopan, Jalisco; September 7, 2025.— The Universidad Panamericana GuadalajaraUniversidad Panamericana is celebrating its 44th anniversary as one of the most influential private institutions of higher education in western Mexico. Since its founding in 1981, the campus has grown steadily, establishing itself as an academic and social leader thanks to its humanistic educational model and its commitment to innovation.
The Origins: From a Regional Project to a Well-Established Campus
The origins of the Universidad Panamericana linked to the founding of the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresa (IPADE) in 1967 and the Instituto Panamericano de Humanidades in 1968, which adopted the name Universidad Panamericana in 1978.

In Guadalajara, the immediate precursor was the opening of IPADE in 1978, which served as the foundation for what would soon become a university campus. Finally, on September 7, 1981, under the leadership of Sergio Villanueva Varela, the university’s first president, the Guadalajara campus officially opened, offering three bachelor’s degree programs, a library, and 90 students.
With facilities located in Ciudad Granja, its beginnings were modest, but they represented a strategic step toward decentralizing quality higher education and bringing it closer to the Guadalajara community.

Academic Growth and Infrastructure
Starting with just three undergraduate programs, the Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara Universidad Panamericana has grown to offer a wide range of undergraduate programs and numerous graduate programs. Schools such as Law, Economics and Business, and Engineering, as well as programs in Education, Architecture, Communication, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality, are part of a comprehensive academic structure that aligns with the institution’s mission to develop leaders who embody professional excellence and human values.

This evolution is also reflected in its infrastructure. Various buildings have been added to the original facilities, reflecting the evolution of the educational model. In 2024, the AGA Padel Complex and the Business Research Center (BRC) were inaugurated, featuring laboratories specializing in neuroscience, innovation, retail, and finance, reaffirming the campus’s role as a generator of applied knowledge linked to technological innovation, while the CMD will be reopened in 2025.

Forward-thinking leadership
Stability in leadership has been a hallmark of the Guadalajara campus. Following the initial leadership of Sergio Villanueva, the university was led by Dr. Juan Gerardo de la Borbolla (2008–2018), followed by Dr. José Antonio Esquivias (2018–2024), and is currently led by Dr. Abraham Mendoza Andrade, who took office in August 2024.
These efforts have made it possible to consolidate strategic projects and maintain a consistent approach to the institutional vision.
“The history of Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara campus began 44 years ago. Thanks to the vision and dedication of those who came before us, we are now a prestigious and well-regarded university community. Our graduates, with their talent and commitment, are our best calling card: women and men who, in every field, demonstrate the strength of our education,” says Dr. Abraham Mendoza Andrade.
“We also celebrate those who bring this history to life today: our staff and our students, whose enthusiasm, hard work, and dreams give meaning to our present and inspire us to look to the future with hope. Today, as we mark another year, we renew our commitment to ensuring that this campus remains a place where truth, knowledge, and a well-rounded education bear fruit that transforms Jalisco, Mexico, and the world,” he said.
