Mexico City, July 11, 2025.— With the aim of establishing a strategic partnership to promote academic activities, research, and talent development in the financial sector, the Universidad Panamericanasigned a collaboration agreement with Principal Financial Group Inc.
The formal ceremony, held at the Panamericana facilities, was attended by officials from both institutions, including Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, rector of the Universidad Panamericana Mexico City Universidad Panamericana ; and Josemaría Bolio Barajas, MBA, CEO of Principal Afore; and Mtra. Gabriela Esteban Gómez, dean of the School of Economics and Business; and Adriana Fernández Gutiérrez, deputy director of Institutional Development.

UP Chair: A Bridge Between Theory and Practice
As the first initiative resulting from the agreement, the implementation of the Principal-UP Chair: Finance Case Studies, aimed at ninth-semester students in the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Finance. The sessions, led by Principal executives, will take place from August 4 to November 24 at the Universidad Panamericana campus.
During her remarks, Mayte Alcelay Arcelus, M.A., director of the Bachelor’s program in Business Administration and Finance, emphasized that this chair will not only be a space for technical learning, but a platform for dialogue and impact where academic knowledge meets the reality of the financial sector.
“We will train professionals who understand the value of the long term and make informed decisions, thereby contributing to a more just and free society,”, he said.

Commitment to education and the future
The CEO of Principal Afore and alumnus of the Universidad Panamericana, expressed his enthusiasm about returning to his alma mater to contribute to the students’ development.
“We want to bring financial literacy to young people, not as future customers, but as partners in building a better Mexico,”said Barajas, who holds an MBA. He also highlighted Principal’s commitment to education and its hope that this initiative will be the first step toward a broader collaboration.

For his part, Dr. Santiago García emphasized the importance of forging ties between the university and the business sector to enhance students’ education. “This partnership reflects our mission to train professionals of integrity who are committed to the common good and capable of transforming society from their spheres of influence,”, he said.

The signing of this agreement not only strengthens a partnership between two leading institutions in their respective fields, but also lays the groundwork for future collaborative projects in areas such as research, talent, and professional development.

Both the Universidad Panamericana Principal Financial Group agreed that this initiative is an example of how education and business can work together to have a positive impact on society.
