Mexico City, June 17, 2025.– The Universidad Panamericana its commitment to the well-rounded education of its students through the training of nearly 200 advisors, who now form part of a community dedicated to guiding students’ academic, personal, and professional development.
These initiatives, led by the SMART Center, include two key programs: a basic training program for comprehensive support and another specializing in handling sensitive cases.
Developing leaders with a human touch
The basic training program, titled UP Advisors: Shaping People, Transforming Lives, aims to equip advisors with tools to inspire students to discover their potential and contribute to the common good. “A committed advisor is not someone who has all the answers, but someone who knows how to listen, guide, and motivate their students to be the best version of themselves”, the program highlights.
This training program emphasizes values such as empathy, self-awareness, and a long-term perspective, strengthening the human bonds that define the university community.
Counselors learn to support students in making important decisions, overcoming challenges, and building their dreams, leaving a lasting impact even after students leave the classroom.
Support in sensitive situations: empathy and clarity
On the other hand, training Counseling with a Human Touch: Providing Support in the Moments That Matter Most focuses on addressing complex emotional, family, or personal situations.
In this session, counselors are given tools to identify warning signs, ask key questions, and build trust, without replacing the role of mental health professionals.
“The counselor doesn’t solve problems, but provides support. They don’t diagnose, but identify issues. They don’t replace the expert, but connect the student with the help they need”, explains SMART Center. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, academic pressure, substance use, and other challenges faced by young people.
In addition, the SMART Center has established referral pathways and interdepartmental networks to ensure that students receive the appropriate care.
