Aguascalientes, Ags., August 21, 2024.— Aurora Jaquez, an alumna of the School of Engineering, is collaborating on the project for the Panamericana’s Aguascalientes campus.
As a graduate in Civil Engineering and Business Administration, Aurora had the opportunity to begin working for Grupo Constructor Peasa, where she was invited to collaborate on the sports complex project as a site engineer.
“My role involves overseeing construction—the civil engineering work—that is, everything from the foundation and excavation to the erection of walls and foundation slabs. My greatest contribution has been to the parts of the project that aren’t visible,” he explains.
He has also worked closely with his colleagues and supervisors on the most visible aspect of the project, which is the structure itself. In this way, he has gained a great deal of knowledge in an area that interests him greatly.
“I think that, as an alumna, participating in this project is very rewarding, because I’m building on the foundation they gave me to become a good engineer and am able to literally leave that foundation here in this project. That’s what gives me the most satisfaction,” she says.
Regarding the project, it is important to note that, like much of the campus, solar panels have been installed to reduce electricity consumption; furthermore, all lighting will consist of LED fixtures to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
An engineer with a passion for education
Before joining Grupo Constructor Peasa, Aurora worked as a teacher at Colegio Triana, where she put her passion for education to the test. Driven by this passion for teaching, she is now dedicated to encouraging and inspiring girls and women to pursue careers in engineering.
“One of my goals while I was at Triana School was precisely to encourage girls to get involved in STEM fields, and I’m very happy to know that many of them are genuinely interested in those fields—so much so that they’re going to compete in the F1 in Schools World Championship,” she adds.
A project that leaves a lasting impact
Furthermore, the new gym on our campus is a clear example of the institution’s commitment to sustainability. It will be equipped with solar panels to generate clean energy and an energy-efficient lighting system; this facility not only significantly reduces its carbon footprint but also fosters a culture of environmental responsibility among its students and the community.
By implementing these technologies, the university demonstrates its leadership in adopting sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and long-term energy and cost savings.
In addition, as part of an innovative project, students in the Civil Engineering and Management (ICA) program are collaborating with IDESIE in Spain to create a digital twin model for the gym.
This model, developed through the IMBICloud platform, enables maintenance and improvement work to be carried out more efficiently by anticipating needs and optimizing the use of resources. This initiative not only raises the standard of building management but also prepares students to tackle the engineering challenges of the future through the use of advanced technologies.
