Educational Psychology: A Pioneering Discipline at the UP

Since its inception, this degree program has been a pioneer, recognizing the growing social need for professionals specialized in the identification, diagnosis, and intervention for individuals with special educational and learning needs. This interdisciplinary approach, which combines education and psychology with a solid foundation in neuroscience, has been the key to its success and relevance.

He also noted that the Universidad Panamericana an innovative decision in launching this program, which is geared toward a social and professional role that is constantly growing.

A Constantly Evolving Discipline

The journey has not been without challenges. One of the main challenges has been to establish educational psychology as a distinct discipline, separate from psychology and pedagogy. Its strength lies in its ability to integrate both perspectives and offer a holistic view of learning processes.

Over the past 15 years, the profile of our graduates has evolved in response to the demands of a changing world. Today, students are not only interested in traditional academic fields but also show a broad interest in research, family counseling, human resources, and social inclusion.

The skills currently in highest demand include psycho-educational assessment and intervention, addressing diversity, and, crucially, multidisciplinary collaboration.

Neuropsychopedagogy and the Future of Work

The curriculum is constantly evolving to include areas such as inclusion, neuropsychology, and language, preparing students to address diversity and nurture individual talents throughout the entire life span.

Today, neuropsychopedagogy is emerging as a key field, enabling specialized intervention for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. Similarly, occupational psychopedagogy is emerging as an essential tool for the inclusion of individuals with neurodivergence and special educational needs in the workplace, demonstrating the versatility of graduates in this field.

The Universidad Panamericana the importance of research as a cornerstone of its mission, with faculty members who are part of the National System of Researchers (SNII) conducting applied research in neuroscience, giftedness, and language disorders.

These areas of research, bolstered by international collaborations in more than eight countries, ensure a level of scientific rigor that establishes the bachelor’s degree program as a leader in its field.

Graduates Who Are Transforming Society

The contribution that graduates make to society is the most tangible evidence of the program’s impact. Alumni of the Universidad Panamericana found in schools, companies, hospitals, and NGOs, serving as true agents of social change

An inspiring example is the large number of alumni who have received the Ceneval Award for Excellence in Performance-EGEL, a testament to their training and the impact they make.

In today’s world, marked by advances in artificial intelligence and changes in the labor market, educational psychologists play a key role in helping people adapt to new ways of learning, ensuring that technological innovation goes hand in hand with inclusion, well-being, and human development.

Outlook for the next 15 years

Looking ahead, the goal is to establish the bachelor’s program as a leader in educational psychology both nationally and internationally by expanding academic partnerships, strengthening research, and developing graduate programs such as the Specialization in Speech Therapy and the Master’s in Neuropsychology.

The celebration of this anniversary is a time for gratitude and reflection, honoring the legacy of those who conceived the project—such as Dr. Jesús Antonio Eng Duarte, Dr. Enrique Salvador López Fernández, and Dr. Daniela Salgado Gutiérrez—who led its development.

With degree programs that strive, day in and day out, to remain at the forefront of their respective fields, the Universidad Panamericana a leader in the country’s higher education sector.
