UP launches a Master of Science in Public Health to train experts in research and prevention in Mexico

Mexico City, April 10, 2026.– The Universidad Panamericana its Master of Science in Public Health program, designed to train professionals capable of addressing the current challenges facing Mexico’s healthcare system through scientific research, prevention, and evidence-based decision-making.

In a context marked by the rise in chronic diseases and global health challenges, this master’s program addresses the need to train specialists with a comprehensive perspective and the ability to develop solutions that make a real difference.

A response to the country's pressing challenges

In Mexico, diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer remain the leading causes of death, underscoring the importance of strengthening public health, research, and preventive care models.

An approach centered on scientific research

The Master of Science in Public Health program at the Universidad Panamericana distinguished by its focus on scientific research as a driver of change. Dr. Antonio Rafael Villa Romero, chair of the Research Committee at the Universidad Panamericana School of Health Sciences, explains:

“Professionals trained in public health must have the ability not only to solve specific problems but also to generate cutting-edge knowledge to promote universal access. Such knowledge must be grounded in scientific evidence, with all the methodological rigor that this entails.”

Research that makes a real-world impact

From a clinical perspective, research is not only a theoretical endeavor but also a direct tool for improving people’s lives. For this reason, this program integrates fields such as epidemiology, nutrition, and chronic diseases, with the aim of training specialists capable of addressing health issues from a comprehensive, evidence-based perspective.

Dr. Eloisa Colín Ramírez, a professor at the Universidad Panamericana 2020, notes that the generation of scientific knowledge is the cornerstone that underpins both clinical care and preventive strategies in public health.

“Scientific research is essential for updating clinical practice guidelines and designing effective prevention strategies, which are a set of recommendations that establish guidelines for disease management based on the best available evidence to date. Clinical practice and prevention do not operate in isolation; they constantly feed into one another, he said.

From science to impact: a translational perspective

One of the program’s key distinguishing features is its focus on translational research, which aims to turn scientific knowledge into concrete solutions for the healthcare sector.

Dr. Guadalupe Janette Furuzawa Carballeda, a Level “D” professor and researcher at the School of Health Sciences at the Universidad Panamericana 2021, emphasizes that this integration of science and clinical practice is essential to addressing the current challenges facing the healthcare sector:

“The program focuses on consolidating theoretical knowledge and integrating practical skills in healthcare professionals, enabling them to develop critical, analytical, basic, and clinical reasoning regarding evidence-based public health research, with a scientific and social approach—that is, ‘bench-to-bed’ research, he emphasized.

Thanks to this approach, the graduate program promotes:

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Identifying clinical needs
  • The two-way flow of knowledge
  • Methodological rigor
  • Identifying the infrastructure needed to conduct a specific research project
  • Ways to obtain funding
  • Training on ethical and regulatory issues: approval by Research Ethics Committees (RECs) and compliance with patient protection regulations.

A program with a purpose

The two-year in-person program includes training in:

Commitment to health and research

With the launch of this master’s program, the Universidad Panamericana its commitment to academic excellence, research, and the training of professionals capable of transforming Mexico’s healthcare system.
