PANAMMUN XVIII: Promoting Youth Leadership and International Diplomacy

Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, February 4, 2026.— The Universidad Panamericana AguascalientesUniversidad Panamericana held the eighteenth edition of PANAMMUN, the Model United Nations organized annually by students in the Bachelor of Law program, an initiative that brings together high school students from different regions of Mexico and Latin America with the aim of fostering dialogue, reflection, and social engagement through diplomatic simulation.

A student project with a 17-year history

The program was launched in 2008 on the initiative of Alfredo Reyes, then a student and now an alumnus of the School of Law, with two clear objectives: to provide high school students with an international academic experience in line with UP’s educational philosophy, and to spark an interest in international law through hands-on, real-world practice.

Since its founding, PANAMMUN has consisted of three days of debates led by college students, who work alongside the delegates to find peaceful resolutions.

Through this experience, participants take on the role of representatives from different countries, advocating cultural, political, and social positions in response to real-world issues, while developing collective solutions aimed at the common good.

Traditionally, the model includes about seven committees in both Spanish and English, including the General Assembly, the Security Council, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the Economic and Social Council, as well as other bodies that vary depending on the global context, such as UN Women and the Human Rights Council; this year, the Historical Committee was added.

A training platform with a global impact

PANAMMUN's mission is to raise awareness among young people and engage them in issues of international importance, while promoting social awareness, critical thinking, and the development of negotiation and diplomatic skills.

Over the course of its 17 previous editions, PANAMMUN has served as a breeding ground for international careers. Many of its former secretaries-general and participants now practice law in Mexico and in countries such as the United States, Spain, Italy, France, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. The skills they have acquired have also enabled them to join nationally prominent law firms or establish their own practices with an international presence.

One of the largest editions

PANAMMUN XVIII brought together more than 230 delegates from virtually every high school in Aguascalientes, as well as students from San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, and—for the first time—from Colegio Altamira in Guadalajara, establishing itself as one of the largest editions in the history of the model.

It should be noted that the event is organized entirely by students from the School of Law and is intended exclusively for high school students.

During this year's event, awards were presented for Best Delegate by Committee, Best Overall Delegate—an honor won by Rodrigo Rodríguez Ponce, a freshman at Colegio Encino—Best Posture, which went to Rodrigo de la Garza, also from Colegio Encino, as well as the Best School award, which was given to Bosques International School.

Student leadership in the service of the common good

Events such as PANAMMUN reflect the Universidad Panamericana commitment Universidad Panamericana well-rounded education of leaders who are socially conscious, have a spirit of service, and possess an international outlook. Because it is driven by the students themselves, this model reinforces fundamental values such as responsibility, collaboration, and the pursuit of the common good, reaffirming the Universidad Panamericana role Universidad Panamericana an educational community that promotes active participation, critical thinking, and the positive transformation of society.
