Real impact on vulnerable communities

The Panamerican volunteers were Fernanda Espinosa CamposInternational Business student; Maximiliano Almeida Rodríguezfrom the Business Intelligence; Fernando Albores Zúñigaand Diego Ramírez Galindo from Marketing.

At Fatima Children's Homethe students lived with children from 0 to 12 years old who have suffered family violence or are in complex legal processes. While at the Anini FoundationFoundation, they spent time with abandoned people with disabilities.

Fernando Albores spoke about his experience at the latter institution: "Nothing prepares you to see that reality up close. That someone wanted to have a printed photo with me or make a sculpture of me was shocking.. With so little time, I left a mark on them, but they left a much bigger one on me .".

For his part, Maximiliano Almeida said about the experience: "I learned about the resilience that people with disabilities have to get up every day and be cheerful, live their day with a lot of encouragement; it is the most beautiful thing I have experienced being in contact with them.It is one of the most beautiful things I have experienced being in contact with them".

While Diego Ramirez highlighted the foundation's Anini: "The children of 'Anini' taught me the true meaning of happiness. Despite their conditions, their joy was contagious. This experience planted in me a strong desire to continue helping.".

Both volunteers agreed that this experience made them reflect on their privileges and the importance of empathy. "To be able to talk is a giant privilege." Fernando mentioned, and Diego added: "I learned to value what I have and to see the world from another perspective."
