Mexico City, June 30, 2025.—Universidad Panamericana ’s Social Commitment department organized the 2025 International Pan-American Volunteer Program in Guatemala City, in collaboration with the University of Itsmo.
This project, designed to provide students with enriching experiences in the areas of social responsibility and global issues, allowed four students from our university to have a transformative experience at two local institutions: Casa Niños Fátima and the Anini Foundation.
Real Impact on Vulnerable Communities
The volunteers on the Pan-American Highway were Fernanda Espinosa Campos, an International Business student; Maximiliano Almeida Rodríguez, a student in the Business Intelligence; Fernando Albores Zúñiga, a student in Quantitative Finance; and Diego Ramírez Galindo, a student in Marketing.
At Casa Niños Fátima, the students spent time with children ages 0 to 12 who have experienced domestic violence or are involved in complex legal proceedings. Meanwhile, at the Anini Foundation, they spent time with people with disabilities who had been abandoned.
Fernando Albores recounted his experience at this last institution: “Nothing prepares you to see that reality up close. The fact that someone wanted a printed photo with me or made a sculpture of me was truly moving. In such a short time, I left a mark on them, but they left a much bigger one on me.”
For his part, Maximiliano Almeida had this to say about the experience: “I learned about the resilience that people with disabilities have to get up every day and be cheerful, living their day with great enthusiasm; it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve experienced through my interactions with them.”
Meanwhile, Diego Ramírez stood out from the start Anini: “The children at ‘Anini’ taught me the true meaning of happiness. Despite their circumstances, their joy was contagious. This experience instilled in me a strong desire to continue helping”.
Both volunteers agreed that this experience made them reflect on their privileges and the importance of empathy. “Being able to speak is a huge privilege,” said Fernando, and Diego added: “I learned to appreciate what I have and to see the world from a different perspective.”
Mission Accomplished: Developing Socially Responsible Leaders
This volunteer program reinforces the Universidad Panamericana ’s commitment to training professionals who are aware of their role in society. “We want our graduates not only to excel in their fields, but also to be agents of change who contribute to the common good”, noted the Social Engagement department.
The significance of this project lies in its ability to inspire more members of the university community to join similar initiatives, broadening their horizons and strengthening their sense of social responsibility.
