A triathlete with Olympic vision

Triathlon is a multisport event that combines three disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. Ángel Yépez's modality is sprint distance. sprintwhere competitors complete 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and five kilometers of running.

After preparing and training for several months, the triathlete was able to meet the requirements established to be a national national selection thanks to his participation in competitions in La Paz, Isla de Tris and the most recent one in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.

National triumph, international projection

"I was training triathlon in the mornings and afternoons to compete in the Pan American Youth Games, but we chose to change the focus and decided to prepare for the Continental Cup."says Ángel Yépez.

Competing against more than 60 elite athletes from all over the continent, Angel managed to stand out thanks to his high performance in the cycling stage, which was key to his final position.

"Although the swim is what is costing me the most, I have been improving my performance optimally in cycling, which has been helping me to connect to the groups and go down in front running. That's what gave me the result in Ixtapa", shares the triathlete.shares the triathlete.

Competitions such as the Continental Cup, represent a key stage in the qualification process for the ranking international ranking and open the possibility of competing for a place in the Olympic Games.

"I have always had in mind to reach the global top. I want to represent Mexico in World Cups more often, and as a final goal, I want to get to participate in more than one Olympic Games series by getting into the top 10," he says.she says.

Currently, Angel is preparing for his next events, where he will make his debut in the World Cups, the first one in Huatulco, Oaxaca on June 21, the most important competition in his sports career to date.
