Dr. Irery Lizbeth Melchor Durán, research professor at the School of Economics and Business Administration was appointed as an advisor to the SME Affairs Committee of the T-MEC Mexico region, representing our Pan American campus in Aguascalientes.
The Ministry of Economy in conjunction with the Senate of the Republic launched a call for the election of advisors to form part of a series of Committees that will help implement the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC).
Among these Committees is the SME Affairs Committee; in the case of Mexico, it is made up of people from the public, private, social and academic sectors who belong to organizations related to or whose main focus is to provide attention to SMEs.
In this sense, our University nominated Dr. Irery Melchor Durán, who, thanks to her academic and professional experience in SMEs, was appointed as one of the 18 Board Members.
"For me this appointment meant a great harvest of all that I have sown in these years and also a lot of pride and joy that the University has trusted me. Being in academia and research has shown me that I am not alone; I have had the support of other researchers, businessmen, among other key people in practice who have shared their knowledge and experiences with me, so that I can also contribute to the Committee," says Dr. Irery.

Encourage trilateral trade in SMEs
Chapter 25 of the T-MEC, on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), recognizes "the fundamental role of SMEs in maintaining the dynamism and improving the competitiveness of their respective economies" and therefore aims for Mexico, the United States and Canada to foster close cooperation among SMEs in the three countries and to cooperate to promote their growth and employment.
Therefore, the SME Affairs Committee, or "SME Committee", will be composed of government representatives from each country and has the following objectives:
- Identify ways to help SMEs.
- Encourage greater cooperation.
- Exchange and analyze best practices.
- Develop and promote seminars, workshops and other activities to inform about the benefits that the T-MEC brings to their SMEs.
- Facilitating advice on programs for SMEs, among others.
This positions our Panamericana as an expert in entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises.
