UP celebrates National Program for the Recognition of Technology Managers

Mexico City, July 15, 2024 - For five days, 25 managers and professionals in the areas of research and technological innovation from different universities and companies participated in the National Program for the Recognition of Technology Managers .

This initiative was launched by the Universidad Panamericana and the Network of Technology Transfer Offices in Mexico, in conjunction with the in conjunction with the Network of Technology Managers in ChileThe purpose of this initiative is to validate the knowledge, skills and competencies of professionals who perform technology management functions.

Strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship

During the week of training, key topics such as the identification and evaluation of technologies, intellectual property and technology transfer were explored. Negotiation techniques and strategies to create effective links with industry were also addressed, with the aim of strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship management capabilities from the academy .

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Ofelia Angulo Guerrero, Secretary of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the Government of Mexico City, said: "This innovative training initiative, by including dynamics for the management of technology portfolios, will support the identification and visibility of the potential of products generated from research and technological development of universities and companies".

Dr. Sergio Velázquez Rodríguez, Vice Rector General for Research at Universidad Panamericana, said: "This initiative is the result of a specific need and reality, since technology management is no longer an exclusive function of universities and research centers.

"Today, the role played by technology managers is fundamental in any type of organization that wishes to design and implement innovation management models, whether in the public sector, companies or startups. The differentiating feature of the program is that, for the first time, technology managers will study based on real technology transfer cases," he added.

About the program

Regarding the purpose of the National Program for the Recognition of Technology Managers, Dr. Juan Alberto González Piñón, corporate director of Innovation and Transfer of Universidad Panamericana, said: "Our great desire is to support the strengthening of universities' capacities to transform research into transfer and innovation ".

He added: "The potential is great and is represented by the more than 48,000 researchers in Mexico, whose strength and dynamics are capable of moving the entire country. It is this scientific and technological capacity that I am referring to, which needs to be oriented towards addressing the priority and concrete problems of society."

Part of the OTT Mexico Network, its president Marcela Castillo, said: "The program was created for professionals in the areas of research and technological innovation who seek new challenges or wish to broaden their professional horizons".

Roberto Ramos Casas, Vice President of Business Development and Competitiveness of COPARMEX, Mexico City, stated: "For the business sector, this initiative represents the possibility of contributing to the economic reactivation and productive transformation of the country through technological development and innovation, while strengthening the innovation management capabilities of companies to reorient their production processes and growth competencies.

Pan-American Capacity

In part, the scientific and technological capacity of Universidad Panamericana is reflected in its 155 members of the National System of Researchers, 268 indexed publications, five new patents and 18 technologies with commercialization potential.

Thus, the Pan-American emphasizes the importance of fostering a culture that values research results, with special emphasis on the protection of intellectual property and the effective transfer of knowledge to society.
